Join us for an analogy thread on academic publishing, #AcademicSky: Cows make milk. They milk themselves. Other cows check the milk (for free). Cows - get this - sometimes PAY THE FARMER to take the milk away. Then the farmer (you won't believe this, honestly) sells the milk *back to the cows.*

Yesterday I visited both the UCL East campus and Loughborough University London libraries to help inform an OU Project . I take it for granted that Librarians are always ever-helpful and willing to support each other; my colleagues from other departments were amazed we have this culture!

Talking to friends at the weekend I was reminded what a caring organisation I work for. My excellent colleague Hilary (not on Bluesky) set up a carers passport to help facilitate line manager conversations for carers. It's a great initiative - I'm happy to share our experience if helpful 🙂

The Open University Library has gracefully departed Twitter / X. We had build an engaged following of 31,000 accounts and the platform had served us well communicating with our distant learning students. We're now focussing on YouTube and Facebook, and potentially @oulibrary.bsky.social
