Plea from Gaza‼️ Abood is 15 years old & suffers from intellectual disabilities and severe epilepsy, enduring agonizing seizures every day. He urgently needs epilepsy treatment that is extremely expensive. Please don’t let him suffer. Every donation gives him hope. chuffed.org/project/1844...

PSA. The people asking for disabled poor people to "share" their experiences for their orgs to collect & use are not doing so out of the goodness of their hearts. Your experiences and insights have value - including monetary value. They get grants & build careers out of your suffering.

On this day in 1998: February 4: Heavy metal legend and frontman of Judas Priest Rob Halford came out publicly as gay. In an interview with MTV's Superock, Halford said: “I have been a gay man all of my life, and it's only been in recent times that it's an issue that I feel comfortable to address."

In October, ICE grabbed Maher Tarabishi. He was a 24/7 caregiver for his disabled son Wael. At the time of Maher’s detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Wael’s caregiver put his life at risk. Wael died on Friday at age 30. ICE caused his death. They didn’t get to say goodbye.

It had been months since Wael Tarabishi seen his father. The family is calling on ICE to release Maher Tarabishi so he may attend his son's funeral.

This finding by international experts in suicide prevention further supports the points I raised in my Policy Options piece about the need for, among other things, the media to follow proper protocols consistent with covering suicide when covering MAiD. policyoptions.irpp.org/2024/04/maid...

Reality, not religion, is the reason people need MAiD-free health care

A NEW BC Supreme Court judgment just dropped granting the petition of Health Authority to prevent a husband who is a strong pro MAiD advocate from killing his wife - a plan he called 'dignicide.' www.bccourts.ca/jdb-txt/sc/2...
 Also in September 2021, Island Health received a report concerning E.W. from the doctor who conducted her initial MAID assessment, who determined that:

·       E.W. had requested MAID, but was assessed as ineligible because she was incapable of providing the requisite consent;

·       if T.W. learned that E.W. was ineligible for MAID, he planned to carry out the Death Plan, which he referred to as a “dignicide”;

· E.W. had recently expressed that she was not ready to die; and

· due to E.W.’s cognitive impairment, associated with the progression of Alzheimer’s disease, she was a vulnerable adult at risk of abuse and neglect.

Alice Wong was one of the most effective people challenging the Whiteness of disability communities and its many flaws, but who believed fiercely in us as a community, in disabled people as oracles. Alice brought so much to so many of us, it’s hard to measure the kind of gratitude I have for that.

Canada treating MAID like a pressure release valve will never not horrify me. The cold cruelties of a system that exists to repeatedly communicate the message to disabled people that they are disposable, and more efficient at dispensing death than it is at care.

What really gets my goat about this accurate observation is that physicians are often so quick to psychiatrize disabled people as hysterical or paranoid--but apparently cannot comprehend the lasting psychological effects of being told your doctor thinks euthanasia is an option you should consider

My colleague and I wrote about how harmful Danielle Smith’s new anti-trans policies would be for ALL youth. Don’t think this is only an attack on trans youth—it makes all children more vulnerable.

Danielle Smith’s new policies make all Albertan youth unsafe
The harms posed to trans youth are more than enough reason to abandon three proposed Alberta bills. However, trans youth are not the only victims of these reckless policies.

Ive been thinking about how lighting is not all that frequently included in discussions of accessibility--one of my biggest triggers are light and patterns--as someone with epilepsy and migraines, and grocery stores and so many public spaces are so badly lit they leave me a triggered mess.

Epilepsy means a lot of memory issues and memory loss. Which, yes, is bad, but also I wish I COULD forget some things about some people, it would make dealing with them a whole lot easier.
