Not sure what number cup this is, but I do love drinking out of this mug 🍂🍁

Book mail Friday and it’s a fun one!! @beetlemoses.bsky.social
My hand holding a hardcover of Beetle Moses: A Comics Menagerie by Harris Fishman. A truck with an open wooden bed full of bananas careens down a steep hill while monkeys hold on to it for dear life. One monkey hangs out the driver’s side, steering with its foot and eating a banana. The monkey is also wearing sunglasses. Background id a delightful deep pink.

The face she makes when she knows I’m going out, and she’s not coming with.
Close up of a black standard poodle with her ears slightly back and her mouth curled up in what we call her “Elvis lip.” She’s looking right into the camera, brown eyes full of resigned disappointment. She’s wearing a red bandana with orange foxes on it. The red, bone-shaped tag on her collar reads: STARBUCK.

I am tickled beyond pink to see that a certain giant, cantankerous, wish-granting catfish is featured on the utterly gorgeous COVER of "Who Am I? Speculative Fiction of Identity & Purpose"!!! Coming soon from @scyllapublishing.bsky.social 🎏💥💗
Detail from the cover of the "Who Am I?" anthology showcasing an southeast Asian woman with dark skin holding onto a rope tied to a long, green-tinged smiling catfish. The woman has her hair tied back in a short ponytail and is wearing a sleeveless shirt that shows off her muscular arms. Behind her is the face of a smiling water nymph. Below is an illustration from another story in which a merperson tilts their head up for a kiss from their human (?) paramour.

You know what is nice? A world where people who need potash and people who have potash can negotiate trades together - maybe with help of an intermediary or two - without having to worry about random weirdos butting in to disrupt their trades. And no-one else thinks about potash much at all.

A small turtle basking on a sunken log in a the shallow end of a lily pad filled pond. It’s shady, but with some dimmed sunlight reflecting a few clouds on the dark water’s surface. The turtle is likely a red-eared slider, judging from its dark shell and face markings, but it’s hard to say for sure.

My partner found this Star Trek encyclopedia at the thrift store the other day, and honestly it's the only thing I want to read right now 🖖
My hand holding up the very large and hardcover of The Star Trek Encyclopedia: A Reference Guide for the Future (Updated and Expanded Edition) by Michael Okuda and Denise Okuda with Debbie Mirek. It features several Starfleet ships (including the Enterprise D, Voyager and the Defiant) flying in a rough circular formation in space over hundreds of Star Trek pictures (portraits of characters and actors) overlaid to resemble the curved surface of a planet. A silver seal at the bottom left corner of the book reads: 1872 - 1997, 125 Years of Service, Burlington Public Library. The book open to show its myriad entries, arranged in columns in delightedly small print and including pictures of a few of the entries, in this case of Khan (left side of book), and Harry Kim (right side of book). It even includes Andrew Kim, Harry's son from that episode of Voyager I really hate. The open book (left side) showing an entire page of full colour illustrations of various phasers from across the ST series and movies.

Another out-of-this-world thrift store find 🚀
A round Riley’s Variety Toffee tin from the 1950s. It features a crew of astronauts on the surface of an unknown planet with Earth above them haloed as it hovers in star spangled space. Two of the astronauts are standing in the foreground. They are white and have similar androgynous faces. One points to something in the distance while the other looks on in awe. They, like the rest of the crew, are in sci-fi white space suits with glass bubble helmets topped with antennas that look like bubble wands. Two upright giant red rocket ships can be seen behind them, one landing, the other already stationed on the planet’s crater-filled surface. Maybe, actually, they’re on the moon, but there’s a ringed planet left of Earth so it’s unclear. Cool tho.

Finally found time and watched They Will Kill You (2026) last night. And, listen, I know this movie wasn’t made for me, specifically, but this movie was made for me, specifically. 🖤🗡️🩸😈
Movie poster for They Will Kill You (2026). A woman (Zazie Beetz) stands in front of golden art deco elevator doors inside a lavish hotel. She is in long-sleeve pjs and is holding a machete-like knife/sword in her hand across the back of her left shoulders. She’s looking defiantly at the camera with her chin up, her other hand injured and wrapped in a rag at her side. Her face and body are covered in splattered blood, which also covers the walls behind her.

Five years ago my Project was to clear out the weed-infested side of our shared walk so I could plant a row of hostas (copying my neighbour on the left). Took a couple of seasons, but they really filled out pretty! (way prettier than my neighbour's, but let's keep that between us 😉)
A stone/gravel path between two houses (pink brick left, red brick right) leading to wooden garden gates (heron iron decorated themed left, geometric iron decorated theme right). The Pink Brick House has a row of lush green hostas growing in a row. The Red Brick House has just had its row cleared of MANY weeds, the cleared dirt awaiting its own hostas.A row of five spaced hostas, freshly planted at the Red Brick House. They are small so there is a lot of dirt between them. A yard trash bag with a Canadian Tire logo on it and a few gardening tools with long wooden handles rest at in the distance by the gates. The hostas today, all grown large and lush. They are of several different varieties, of various hues of green and with touches of yellow and white on their leaves, which also vary in shape and form (i.e. some wide, some wavy, some spade-shaped). A close up of three large hostas in the row (left to right): one with spade-shaped, yellow edged leaves, one with spade-shaped, wavy muted green leaves, and one with yellow, spade-shaped leaves edged in dark green.
