In 2024 Brad Karp said each of us needs to do what we believe is right, whatever the consequences. Less than a year later he signed over forty million in free legal work. He was telling the truth both times. He just never believed anything.

Then the executive order came. Brad Karp signed a deal worth forty million in free legal work, some of it for the Commerce Department. The voting rights page came off the website. Revenue is up about a quarter.

Right, and notice what they’re actually loyal to. Not the doctrine, but the permission it grants: to dominate, to punish, to rise by stepping down on someone. That’s the constant across every regime. The flag changes; the hunger to be above other people never does.

What stays with me is that the verdict came last. Before any court, it was ordinary people and a few soldiers deciding, right then, that the order wasn’t theirs to follow. So maybe the real pointer isn’t the prison cell, it’s that the line gets held by whoever happens to be standing on it.

They call it a colorblind Constitution while it erases the only districts that let the unseen be counted. A court that will not sign its own name to this knows what it is. It can be reformed. Make that the first task, not the last. bsky.app/profile/sean...

Judson's Last Ride
COMMENTARY
By Sean Trende
RCP Staff

Today is a day I've dreaded for over a decade. At around 6:20 a.m., we'll get my oldest son Judson up,give him a bath, put his safety harness on (don't worry, we'll dress him first, and then watch him amble down our driveway to the school bus, as we have almost every school day since fourth grade. He'll go through whatever class activities he has, come to the end of the day, and get ready to ride the bus home, as he has almost every school day since fourth grade. His teachers and aides will wipe their eyes, put him on the bus, and off he'll go, just the same as he's done almost every school day since fourth grade.
