I finished The Irish Midwife at War last night, and I knew my review would be itching to be posted, and I wasn’t wrong. #HistFicMay Day 20. When researching #evacuees in #Wales, I read a snippet about a biracial family who faced racism at first but were later accepted. I was able to find a descendant of the family and speak to her. Research gold! Her story inspired the Clarke Children in #WhatWeLeftBehind. #WW2

Day 12 #HistFicMay My heroine’s greatest fear The secrets Peggy is keeping become increasingly burdensome. She can never let down her guard. She is not wealthy like the other student midwives. She used to work as an illegal midwife. And worst of all, the man she’s fallen for is her family’s enemy

#HistFicMay How much is real, how much is made up? James Burke was real and 'Burke in the Land of Silver' is mostly fictionalised versions of real things. Later adventures are mostly made up, but details of the historical background (people, places, battles etc) are real.
