Elvers, lots of them. In 18 years of regular walks along the Dee at Banchory this is the first time I've seen eels in the river. Usually this wee pool is full of salmon small fry at this time of year. BTW a salmon parr puts in an appearance (bottom left) in the last second. #30DaysWild

Day 24 #30DaysWild Book of the Day is by Fiona Matthews and @timkendall70.bsky.social. Black Ops and Beaver Bombing is an absolute delight. Superbly constructed, informative, thought provoking, personal but not memoir, and stuffed with good awful jokes, telling the story of British mammals.

There's a lot of walking in my list for #30DaysWild book a day. For Day 23 it is up the A1 aka 'The North Road' by @robcowen.bsky.social because it was definitely outdoors and a wild ride for this reader which has helped me read many layered landscapes better.

#30DaysWild Day 23: My #Aldi wildflower bed is continuing to show more colour. Was surprised how vocal the birds were when I ventured outside in this afternoon's extreme heat to take this photo.
A still threadbare flowerbed but now with more colour from a number of flowers.

Day 22 #30DaysWild is a book in the sense you can read a guide (eg by Richard Peace) or a map or @imcmillan.bsky.social's poem but best of all, get on the Transpennine Trail itself.
Ian McMillan's poem The Trans Pennine Trail: text available at https://www.transpenninetrail.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Poetry-card-Official-Opening-Ian-McMillan.pdf

Good morning from Stempster! This is a part of the garden which is full of bugs in all their stages because they - like us - love herbs and veg! We use no chemicals to get rid of things, but the birds help us out. 💚 #30DaysWild

Today's #30DaysWild Book of the Day (19) is by Richard Mabey, one of our great writers on the natural world (and often the interface between us, our doings, and it) It's The Accidental Garden in which he negotiates older age and raises the intriguing thought that he is becoming more plant-like.
