I have to write down agendas of meetings I take and with whom while traveling for work. Even though it’s per diem when international. A non-academic then spends time deciding whether or not I was engaging in academic work while traveling for work. I bet if we cost it out, per diem costs less.

I am really sad to hear that Gaylyn Studlar died today. A towering figure in feminist film history, her work on gender, stardom & fan culture had an immeasurable impact on my own thinking. Way ahead of her time on masculinity and masochism. Also a kind & generous human, all too rare in this biz.

Look. I don't disagree with people saying that the solution to the bike lane law is political: vote Ford out. But can we acknowledge that the places with the bike lanes didn't vote Ford in and that it's not implausible that Ford's actions are partly retaliation for that? And that's kinda messed up?

I'd support making all grades pass/fail. Not just for mental health reasons. But because allocating opportunities based on grades incentivizes students to try to game the system, either by begging professors for extra credit or by using tools like AI to cheat. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Excellent thread. I note only that SSHRC is under similar pressures—and presumably also NSERC. The leadership failures from upper-level university admin since 2020 have been very plain, and very consequential. It's not the utter collapse we've seen in the US, but it's bad.
