I’m the PI for a randomized clinical trial and here’s all the people helping me I think (I def don’t have the institutional books) are at least somewhat paid by indirects: - study monitor 👩‍💻 (keeps us safe) - investigational drug pharmacy 💊 (dispenses study drug/placebo safely and randomizes 🎲)

1/ I am seeing a lot of comments on the slashing of NIH support along the lines of “universities should just spend their huge endowments.” I’m the last person to cheer on the institutional stratification rising endowments have contributed to. But let me explain why this is not a solution.

As a parent of a @wesleyanuniversity.bsky.social 1st year, I continue to be impressed with the insight and sensibility of President Michael Roth. He's been telling us what's up for 8 years now. I hope many will read and hear what he has to say.
“As teachers and students,” I wrote in the early weeks of the first Trump administration, “we must reject intimidation and cynicism and learn from these early proclamations and the frightening direction in which they point. Let us take what we learn and use it to resist becoming another historical example of a republic undermined by the corrosive forces of obfuscation, bigotry and hard-heartedness.” That was in February 2017. Today, I underscore that we will continue to follow the laws of the republic, but that we will not stand idly by as powerful forces aim to weaken its very foundations.
