Extract from the story: 'Fever'. Text follows:

... In another area, I found two carved bone needles the length of my index fingers. What fabrics did they work? What stories had they heard?
Like the comb, I trained my own eye through the larger needle’s eye, blocking out the site save for a narrow strip. What did I hope to expose by such a procedure? It was well I was without the curious observations of other seekers. I strained one eye, then the other, in discovering nothing new. I commemorated that folly by fixing two darning needles to a square of cloth and pinning them to my jacket medal-like.

Pharrp pressed on because he had nothing else to do, unable to break a habit of working a few hours before his first meal of the day.

Pharrp pressed on because he was curious of the acreage he was on.

Pharrp pressed on in expectation of meeting a neighbour.

Front paws digging. Back paws pressing down.

He pressed on until he broke into a chamber, the suddenness of it causing him to fall forward, landing on his forepaws, then his snout.

Text from the short story 'THE STORY (wt)' showing Julian Sampers coming up with new story ideas. Extract follows:

Julian spent twenty minutes in a discount store comparing the merits of different notebooks. Hardcover versus softcover. Lined versus unlined. Saddle stitched versus sprial bound. When he left, he had purchased three to match the mood of the naturally epic stories they would contain. Hitting the pavement he thought up ideas and instantly rejected them as they were:
Too overdone, like burnt toast;
Would need too much research. I don’t have the time for that right now. And I gotta leave room open for a sequel;
Nope. Not the genre I want to focus on, ATM.
After a week. Julian Sampers could not admit he was devoid of viable story ideas.
