Just Stop Oil made a comeback this afternoon, blocking the road outside Parliament for several hours. JSO are acting on the science that shows new oil and gas means more fires, more floods and more deaths.... Will the UK government do the same? #StopRosebank #JustStopOil

7/ MPs walk back into the Commons today with a choice: serve constituents, or serve oil majors. #Jackdaw & #Rosebank don't bring "energy security". They're bring fire, more floods, more deaths, locked in for decades. 🛑 Stop new extraction 🌱 Protect ecosystems 🔬 Let science lead, not lobbying

6/ 💀 NEW OIL & GAS = MORE DEATHS "Climate change is increasingly destabilising the... systems... on which human life depends" — Lancet Countdown, 2025 UK heatwaves this year killed an estimated 2,700+ people. 42% of those deaths are attributed to human-caused warming.

4/ 🌊 NEW OIL & GAS = MORE FLOODS A warmer atmosphere holds more moisture, meaning heavier rain & stronger cyclones. Hurricane Melissa's rainfall was made roughly twice as likely in today’s heated #climate.

3/ 🔥 NEW OIL & GAS = MORE FIRES Hotter, drier conditions mean wildfires spread faster & burn longer. Attribution scientists repeatedly find human-caused #climate change to be a key driver of deadly wildfires. NASA data shows extreme fires are getting bigger and more frequent.

2/ Fact: burning fossil fuels is the single biggest driver of global heating. Extreme weather events, such as droughts, wildfire & flooding are amongst the most noticeable symptoms of the #ClimateEmergency.

12/ As scientists we are doing all we can to ensure basic scientific realities are accounted for in decision-making. But this is an all-of-society problem and we can’t do it alone. We need to stop adding fuel to the fires, and that needs everyone to take a stand.
