The oceans are absorbing 92% of the excess heat to the climate system from the addition of heat-trapping pollutants to the atmosphere. Just last year, the ocean added ~24 ZJ of energy. That’s the equivalent of releasing about 12 Hiroshima bombs of heat into the ocean EVERY SECOND.
