Much has been made of the decision to use American accents in The Odyssey, but after rewatching some scenes from Gladiator, I find the English accents quite jarring. People's natural accents just fade into the background in a way a fake English accent doesn't.

Watched the Raygun documentary. I really wanted more of a focus on how vicious the backlash was. It reminds me a lot of the Jason Arday situation. Too many people get a kick out of being cruel. Rachael managed to weather the storm, but it could so easily have ended the same.

Functional government is a left-wing idea. At best the right sees the government as a necessary evil that should be restrained as much as possible (at least when there's a Demo crat in office). The party that doesn't believe in government has no incentive to make it functional.

This is a pretty clear cut principle:

But it's like when I had this garden party for my father's birthday, right? I said RSVP because it was a sit-down dinner. But people came that, like, did not RSVP. So I was, like, totally buggin'. I had to haul ass to the kitchen, redistribute the food, squish in extra place settings. But, by the end of the day it was, like, the more the merrier!

And so, if the government could just get to the kitchen, rearrange some things, we could certainly party with the Haitians.

And in conclusion, may I please remind you that it does not say "RSVP" on the Statue of Liberty.

Just finished the new Russell T Davies show Tip Toe with Alan Cumming and David Morrissey. It's a show with a message, and it's not subtle about it, but it's delivered with such charisma from Cumming and an amazing performance from Morrissey. Some great monologues ripe for clipping, too.
