People alive today have created only a small portion of our society's wealth. The larger portion is created by technology handed down by previous generations. That portion belongs to all of us. Let's reclaim it with very high taxes on the rich.

They started on illegal immigrants, expanded it to legal immigrants, now are going after naturalized citizens. If you are not one of those groups, you are just somewhere further down the chain, but they will get to eliminating your rights eventually too.

Pretty clear that Trump/Hegseth are doing everything they can to force Ukraine to surrender to Putin by withholding all US assistance while actively helping fund the Russian war machine to kill as many civilians as possible including kids. What a dark, evil chapter in US history.

There are a lot of lawyers who never appear in court or sign a pleading, but passing the bar exam is crucial unless you are in one of the few states that have other paths to becoming a member of the state bar.

Remarkable outcome in Fox News' latest poll: 88% of U.S. voters say they are extremely or very concerned about corruption in government, beating every other issue including inflation www.foxnews.com/politics/fox...

Have to be clear just how dangerous this is. If it continues, it effectively removes constitutional rights from an entire class of people. Imagine you had to fear that if you criticize the regime, any error on paperwork filled out by your family decades ago could be used to strip your citizenship.

Pretty sure the common meaning of "lawyer" is someone who can practice law. And to practice law you need to pass a bar exam somewhere.

Random appt from D Ct judges would give us a fair court, and would take away the charge of "court packing." It would be harder for the Repubs to counter by doing their own court packing.

13 is a terrible number. It would barely put the liberals in charge with a 7 to 6 majority. Lose one liberal on a big case, or have a future Republican president appoint a conservative, and we are back where we are today. Better to increase the court to 26 and appoint randomly from D Ct judges.

Authoritarian regime grabs electronic communication devices of prominent opposition member. Since it’s highly unlikely there is anything on her phone about immigration paperwork from 30 years ago we can assume this just became a fishing expedition.

The federal government is going after Ilhan Omar only because of her race, gender, religion, and party, openly admitting they have no probable cause and aim to manufacture something. Worse because she’s a sitting member of Congress. That makes it an attack on her constituents and US democracy too.

If the money for the $5K offer comes from govt accounts, I think the S Ct would argue that the payment is an official act. Which shows just how bonkers the S Ct opinion was.

Billionaires can have anything they desire. If they like living in California, they will not leave just because their accountant tells them they may take a small hit to their balance sheet. Anyway, leaving now won't help since they would be liable for the tax anyway.

Hard not to notice that Democrats who are doing the best are the ones who are leaving this whole civility-and-norms, we-go-high, we-need-a-strong-Republican-Party bullshit behind and are simply giving Republicans exactly what they all ought to get at all times, which is undisguised contempt.

We need to report more figures in daily life as percentages of net worth rather than raw numbers. We should also levy fines the same way. A $250 speeding ticket may be fully 2.5% of a poor person's net worth. It would also be equivalent to fining Elon Musk $2.5 billion.

Accepting the assumptions of the study, school closures reduced per capita income by $6K over several years. So maybe $1K per year over 6 years? That seems like a cheap way to save 80,000 lives -- just over 1 cent per year for each life saved. A rich society like ours can afford that price.

GOP Rep. Tom Kean disappeared for 4 months & missed dozens of votes then finally surfaced, read a 5 minute speech saying he was at a mental health facility, refused to take questions from the press, and MAGA supports his reelection. But the Talarico hoax is career ending.

Being a District Court judge is mostly a boring but easy job. None took the job to fight the federal govt, especially with all Trump's threats. So they lean over to favor the govt. Sometimes they lean over so far that they fall flat on their face, like in this case.
