The problem is that the vast majority of American universities are putting the full onus of AI policy onto individual instructors—sure, we can write “no AI” on a syllabus, but then we have to become the AI police (& judges), which hurts relationships with students & pulls us away from instruction

I teach LGBTQ Studies. In one class, the final assignment was that students had to make a zine. A real physical zine, not a digital one. In another class -- a research methods class -- I've started to hand them printed-out readings. Students annotate the readings -- by hand -- for a grade.
