This whole thread. And also the raising of that money needs to be sustainable year to year. A big, one-time gift may buy you time, but if it goes away, you’re right back where you started

Making my way through this delightful book and I can now say this theory seems plausible:
The dominoes meme where film composer John Williams’s first collab with Spielberg leads to the extended “Hello, Dolly!” parody in Episode 14 of “Freakazoid!”

Ok, but why is no one talking about the other enduring legacy of this episode which is introducing children to the poetry of William Blake?!

I just rewatched this episode because it has one of the most perfect scripts in the series, but also to examine why it fascinated me as a kid (still does now) and I think it’s this: Of all the Rogue’s Gallery: Tetch scares me the most.

very excited to celebrate one of Portland theatre’s high holy days, the annual one-night-only performance of Anonymous Theatre. they pick a play, each actor rehearses separately in secret, and everyone finds out together who is in it when they stand up from their seat to say their first line

1/ Today, an executive order was signed aimed at childhood vaccines. There's no new scientific data for this policy, but there were a LOT of words and confusing rhetoric at the press conference. Here’s what today actually means for you and your family.

“Without the nuances of Morton’s performance, the Circe scene as written by Nolan is rooted in men’s questionable fear of being accused of violence against women rather than the tragedy of how women navigate that very real threat to our lives.”

For women's music to stay in the repertoire, we don't just need recordings. We also need score publication, composer info & advocacy. So I'm delighted to announce the launch of UNHEARD HERITAGE, a recording initiative marrying research & performance leahbroad.substack.com/p/announcing...
if a work can't be heard, performers won't play it, so we desperately need good recordings of women's compositions if they're going to enter the repertoire. So this month I am really delighted to announce the launch of my recordings initiative, Unheard Heritage, which is dedicated to bringing forgotten works out of archives and bringing them to life in world-class recordings.Because women have always been composers. No matter how difficult it was, no matter how trying the circumstances, historical women fought to make their voices heard. We only have to listen.

Today’s “incredibly wild Arkansas connection“ is reading this passage in @mattalt.bsky.social ’s fascinating, entertaining ride through the history of Japanese pop culture in his book “Pure Invention: How Japan Made the Modern World” 😱
Hiroyuki Nishimura was once a lonely man, too—not much different from Train Man and the other participants on the Single Men board. He was a twenty-two-year-old foreign exchange student studying psychology at the University of Central Arkansas when, in the spring of 1999, he created 2channel.

A digitally drawn montage of scene's from Hayao Miyazaki's animated movie Porco Rosso. In the foreground wwe see Porco flying his Savoia S.21 seaplane. It's a bright red monoplane with a fuselage shaped like a porpoise and the wing mounted above and in front of the cockpit, and the single large, bulbous, shiny red prop engine mounted on top of that. Outrigger floats hang down from the underside of each wing and the vertical stabilizer is painted in the colors of the Italian flag. Porco is looking down toward the Adriatic sea below. From a string of clouds behind the plane rises a closeup portrait of Porco in the plane's cockpit. He's a human with a cartoon pig's head, he's got a little black curled mustache, and he's wearing round sunglasses, leather headgear with goggles pushed up on top of his head, a white silk scarf and a tan jumpsuit. He is smiling past the one side of his mustache and giving a thumbs up to the viewer. Under the plane in the bottom right of the rough-edged frame in yellow handwriting is written 'Maybe it will happen today'.
