The workers have already rejected a 3.4 per cent pay offer and a revised £1200 uplift and have been on strike since 14 September. This week, management seemingly submitted a noise complaint after the sound from supportive vehicles passing the picket line which could be heard inside the building, only to be given short shrift by the City of London Police. Legalease has a history of poor workplace relations, with two members of staff fired due to trade union activities when Unite first sought recognition two years ago.

Unite regional officer Will Searby said: “It is hugely disappointing but unsurprising that Legalease has done nothing to try to end this dispute and instead seemingly tried to involve the police. Sadly, this is typical of its approach to employment relations.

"Legalease can afford a decent pay rise for its staff so they can live with dignity in London.”

A Hampshire Constabulary statement said: "As a result, six people were arrested for offences including careless driving, assaulting an emergency worker and aggravated trespass. They remain in custody at this time and our enquiries into these incidents continue."

The police statement did not make any reference to Mr Thomas, but added: "We are also aware of a video circulating online relating to damage being caused to a boat in the English Channel on the afternoon of September 22, and we are conducting enquiries into the matter."
