The Paradox of Choice
A meme comparing the Starbucks Rewards login screen to the “two buttons” dilemma meme. On the left is a green Starbucks Rewards screen with the Starbucks logo, two illustrated coffee cups, and the text: “Your Starbucks run, rewarded. With exclusive benefits and new ways to earn free favorites, Starbucks® Rewards is better than ever.” At the bottom are two nearly identical buttons, both labeled “Sign in,” one filled cream and one outlined green. On the right, the two-button meme shows both red buttons labeled “Sign in,” while a nervous, sweating man hesitates over which one to press. The joke is that Starbucks appears to offer two indistinguishable sign-in choices.

A meme using the famous “Please, sir, I want some more” scene from Oliver Twist. A young blond boy in worn gray clothing holds out a small bowl with a pleading expression. An orange Claude-style starburst logo is placed over the bowl. Large bold white text with a black outline across the bottom reads: “PLEASE SIR, MAY I HAVE SOME MORE CLAUDE TOKENS?”

The 2nd panel continues the book dialog and says:

Dam Daniel
A wide, sun-washed view of Bonneville Dam spanning the Columbia River at golden hour. The left half of the sky is almost pure white from the low sun, fading to a pale, cool blue toward the upper right. In the middle distance, the dam reads as a long, low band of industrial geometry: a straight line of concrete and steel with a dense grid of rails and truss-like framing along the top. Several tall transmission towers punctuate the scene, including a slender lattice tower on the far left and a cluster of bulkier, red-and-white towers to the right, with power lines draped in gentle arcs between them.

The river fills the foreground, its surface silvery and softly rippled, reflecting the bright sky; near the lower left, darker swells and faint wave texture break the sheen. On the right bank, a strip of trees and shrubs glows yellow-green in backlight, with hints of autumn gold and a few small buildings tucked near the shoreline. Behind the dam, layered hills rise in hazy silhouettes, their edges softened by mist and the warm glare, giving the whole scene a quiet, atmospheric feel despite the massive infrastructure.

Bonneville Dam was constructed in the 1930s (1933–1938) and originally included a long spillway, a powerhouse, and a navigation lock, part of a major push to improve river navigation and generate hydroelectric power in the Pacific Northwest.

Pacific Mood Swing
Waves surge vigorously onto a rocky and rugged coastline beneath an expansive, storm-filled sky. The ocean churns in shades of deep blue, slate gray, and frothy white, creating dynamic, overlapping patterns as water collides forcefully against rocks extending into the sea. The vegetation on the rocks presents a rich, dark green hue, contrasting sharply with the cool tones of the waves. The surface of the water is textured and restless, evoking the chaotic beauty and relentless power of the Pacific Ocean during stormy weather.

Along the coast, steep cliffs rise dramatically from the sea, their sheer sides displaying an array of earthy colors—dark browns, muted greens, and patches of burnt amber. The cliffs appear weathered, textured by erosion, wind, and waves over countless years, emphasizing the raw, natural power of the elements at work. Wisps of mist and fog hang low, gently drifting along these cliff faces and through the dense clusters of evergreen trees scattered along their upper reaches. These evergreens, silhouetted darkly against the foggy backdrop, lend a sense of quiet strength and resilience to the scene.

Further along the horizon, coastal hills recede into layers of mist and low clouds, which soften their outlines, creating a gradual transition from solid ground to cloud-filled sky. The heavy, overcast sky above is awash in shades of soft gray, pale blue, and muted lavender, seamlessly blending with the mist below. Its dense cloud cover diffuses daylight evenly across the landscape, casting a gentle, subdued illumination that enhances the mysterious and moody atmosphere.

The overall impression is one of wild, untamed natural beauty, vividly capturing the essence of a Pacific Northwest coastline caught in the midst of turbulent weather.

Wahkeena Falls
A long-exposure photograph captures the flowing, tiered cascades of Wahkeena Falls in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge. Multiple veils of water tumble over moss-laden rocks and fallen logs. The uppermost section pours forcefully from a slim chute high on the rocky cliff face, plunging into a fern-covered alcove and continuing in steps that create smaller, graceful plunges below. Smooth, milky-white ribbons of water contrast sharply with the rich greens of surrounding vegetation, while the moss clinging to the logs glows softly in an earthy, bright hue. Each log has lost its bark over time, exposing a damp, fibrous surface turned olive green by repeated spray and near-constant shade. The water collects momentarily on flat stones, forming shallow pools before spilling over again and again, creating a mesmerizing pattern of cascades.

In the background and along the steep slopes, thick clusters of deciduous and evergreen trees frame the falls in a natural amphitheater of lush foliage. Some of the leaves, transitioning to muted browns and yellows, reveal the approach of autumn, while ferns and smaller plants flourish in the humid microclimate near the water’s edge. The vertically oriented composition draws the eye upward through the tiers, capturing the sense of movement and cool mist that envelops the scene.

The camera’s slow shutter speed lends a silky texture to the water, highlighting every swirl and gentle ripple as it descends over rugged stone ledges. Wahkeena Falls has an overall drop of about 242 feet, and its name reportedly comes from a Yakama word meaning “most beautiful,” reflecting the majestic quality for which the Columbia River Gorge is known. The rest of the setting remains softly focused, with tree trunks and layered basalt cliffs looming to either side, suggesting a serene yet dynamic environment where the constant flow of water has carved intricate shapes into the rock over countless years.

Verdant Rhythms
A dense stand of Golden Common Bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris var. striata) rises in sturdy columns, each cylindrical culm characterized by a warm, honey-toned hue. Small, ring-like ridges mark the nodes, where subtle ridged sections provide a tactile sense of bamboo’s segmented growth.

Rust-colored stains and faint vertical streaks break up the smooth surfaces, suggesting natural weathering over time. Various shades of pale green and gray lichen sprinkle the canes in irregular patches, forming speckled clusters that appear almost velvety against the bamboo’s golden background. Occasional sections display flecks of deeper orange or brown, reflecting the plant’s progressive aging and exposure to the shaded, humid surroundings.

Thin, tapering branchlets occasionally poke through the culms, giving glimpses of leafy greenery that thrives in the filtered light. Soft shadows between the thick canes evoke the calm of a forest floor, while gentle highlights at the edges hint at sunlight filtering through overhead foliage. The bamboo is robust and widely spaced, with each mature stalk several inches thick—creating the illusion of wooden pillars rooted firmly in the damp earth.

This species is known for rapid growth, sometimes shooting up inches per day under ideal tropical conditions. The striated coloration becomes more pronounced as the culms mature, transitioning through a spectrum of gold, mustard, and subdued brown tones. Lichen, a symbiotic blend of fungus and algae, thrives on these bamboo surfaces, drawing sustenance from surrounding moisture and air.

The overall scene suggests a tranquil, hidden grove where the interplay of shape, color, and texture conveys the quiet strength and resilience of bamboo, as well as the delicate ecological relationships sustaining life in this lush environment.
