The Paradox of Choice
A meme comparing the Starbucks Rewards login screen to the “two buttons” dilemma meme. On the left is a green Starbucks Rewards screen with the Starbucks logo, two illustrated coffee cups, and the text: “Your Starbucks run, rewarded. With exclusive benefits and new ways to earn free favorites, Starbucks® Rewards is better than ever.” At the bottom are two nearly identical buttons, both labeled “Sign in,” one filled cream and one outlined green. On the right, the two-button meme shows both red buttons labeled “Sign in,” while a nervous, sweating man hesitates over which one to press. The joke is that Starbucks appears to offer two indistinguishable sign-in choices.

A cryptocurrency entrepreneur who spent $6.2 million on a banana duct-taped to a wall — ate the fruit in Hong Kong. Justin Sun removed the tape and ate the banana during a press conference at The Peninsula Hong Kong. "It tastes much better than other bananas. Indeed, quite good," he said.
A person with curly hair tied into a bun, wearing glasses, observes a conceptual art piece consisting of a ripe banana duct-taped to a plain white wall. The banana is secured with a strip of gray duct tape, positioned diagonally across the fruit. The text overlay at the bottom of the image reads: 'Cryptocurrency entrepreneur who bought banana art for $6.2 million eats the fruit in Hong Kong.'

The cats just put that button there to distract you. It doesn't actually do anything.
The photo features a tabby cat with a striped coat in shades of brown, black, and cream. The cat is resting on a light wood, curved platform lined with a soft, white fabric. Its green eyes, with a sharp and piercing gaze, are the focal point of the image. The fur texture is rich and detailed, with a mix of smooth and slightly fluffy areas. The background is softly blurred, featuring a neutral tone that enhances the subject's prominence. The image conveys a cozy and relaxed atmosphere with a touch of feline attitude.

Line graph showing the trend of social media account connections to Buffer, comparing Bluesky, Threads, and Mastodon from August to early November.

The orange line (Bluesky) shows a strong upward trend with a peak in mid-October, surpassing the purple line (Threads) and the teal line (Mastodon), indicating that more people are now connecting Bluesky accounts to Buffer than Threads or Mastodon accounts.

Dashed lines near November suggest projected or estimated activity.

Buffer published a usage chart comparing Threads, Mastodon, and Bluesky on their service. Bluesky is gaining fast and has already surpassed Mastodon.
A line chart comparing Threads, Mastodon, and Bluesky usage on Buffer's service from early June to early November.

The chart shows that Threads (in red) has a strong upward trajectory, rapidly increasing since early July and reaching over 5,000 users by November.

Bluesky (in yellow) starts with no users in June but experiences a sharp rise from July onward, surpassing Mastodon (in light blue) in early October and continuing to grow toward 3,000 users by November.

Mastodon (yellow) maintains a steady but flat line, hovering around 2,000 users without significant growth throughout the period.

Kind of funny that I can't retort to this genius on @esqueer.net's Threads post because an oligarch's algorithm is preventing me from doing so. 🃏
In a social media thread, several users discuss the differences between Bluesky and the Fediverse. One user named 'esqueer_' states that Bluesky is built on a protocol bridging with the Fediverse, but finds the Fediverse challenging for non-technical users.

Another user, '2023kdw,' argues that Bluesky is centralized, owned by a for-profit company, and therefore vulnerable to corporate takeovers, unlike the decentralized Fediverse. 'bsky_photographer' responds that Bluesky is a Public Benefit C Corp, with safeguards against harmful influence, adding that they’ve experienced issues with Mastodon related to UX, scalability, and identity ownership.

In a reply, '2023kdw' notes that a public benefit corporation is still for-profit and points out Bluesky’s VC funding.

A message at the bottom indicates a 'Post failed to upload,' with an option to 'View.', preventing bsky_photographer from engaging in good faith dialog.

RDP Hot Take
A scene from the show "I Think You Should Leave" with a man sitting at a desk in an office. He is wearing a light blue, checkered shirt with a dark green tie that has a subtle pattern of squares. His expression is animated, with a smile and raised eyebrows, suggesting he is explaining or justifying something.

The background is a typical office setup: a dark brown cabinet above his head, a black fan on the desk behind him, and papers scattered on the surface. On the left side of the frame is a black computer monitor, partially cut off. Subtitles at the bottom read, “We should be able to put a little bit of RDP on the internet.” The lighting is bright, casting minimal shadows, creating a clean, crisp scene.

Bluesky welcoming new arrivals from Threads
This image is a still from the movie Midsommar (2019), directed by Ari Aster. It shows a group of women in traditional Swedish-style clothing participating in a communal expression of grief.

The central character, Dani (played by Florence Pugh), is visibly distraught, with the other women mirroring her emotional state and holding her as part of a shared ritualistic experience.

This scene captures the film’s exploration of communal rituals, emotional catharsis, and cultural practices within the fictional Swedish pagan community.

Noticed that the local big box stores were all out of common air purifier filters before I realized it was fire season. Looks like the Portland metro area has been getting lucky with wind direction and wildfire smoke, hoping it holds as forecast. 🤞🏼
A weather map (current at time of post) of Oregon showing temperatures, wind direction, active wildfires, and PM2.5 concentration.

Temperatures are labeled at various cities: Portland (68°F), Eugene (71°F), Bend (71°F), Medford (77°F), Lakeview (84°F), Burns (88°F), Halfway (86°F), Walla Walla (89°F), and Boise (95°F).

Red and orange dots and clusters indicate active wildfires, mostly concentrated in central and eastern Oregon. Wind patterns suggest movement of smoke away from the Portland metro area, which currently appears to have lower PM2.5 concentration compared to other regions affected by wildfire smoke.
