Russian strikes destroy 90 percent of Ukraine food storage warehouses
Russian military strikes in Ukraine have destroyed about 90% of food storage warehouses belonging to Ukrainian retail chains, according to Taras Vysotskyi, head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, as reported by Ukrinform.
“This doesn’t mean Ukrainians will be left without food. Logistics will adapt, with delivery models shifting to just-in-time approaches and other rapid supply options. There will be no threat of famine or a systemic shortage of food. The selection of products might take a hit — something we’ve previously warned about — but there is no risk of basic food staples disappearing from stores accessible to consumers,” Vysotskyi assured.
Over the past month, Russian forces have launched drone and ballistic missile attacks on warehouses and distribution centers for grocery chains including Fora, Varus, Silpo, and Novus, according to Ukrinform.
On the night of August 27, warehouses in the Fastiv district of Kyiv region caught fire during an attack. The previous day, drone strikes targeted storage facilities in Chernihiv. In Odesa, an attack on the night of August 24 set the Epicentr shopping center ablaze. Local regional administration head Oleh Kiper said that the main targets of these massive attacks were food storage warehouses and energy infrastructure.
