In a world in thrall to *financial* power, expertise is the *only* form of power that can reliably contest the power of wealth. Moreover, expertise is the foundation of other forms of power, such as labor power, which is what we call it when experts band together to combat financial power.

In short, the power to thwart billionaires' desires. AI is the money-losingest enterprise the human race has ever embarked upon. More than a trillion dollars has been spent *this year* to make a mere $50b in revenue.

When that expertise is locally scarce (there's only one person in town who know how to clean your toilet) or universally scarce (there's only one expert who can tell you which of your landholdings are likely to hold seams of gold) those experts have something that billionaires can't abide: *power*.

An interesting report of a project at the Hertziana includes this note. I would argue that access to historical archives is actually hindered when you throw chat at something to transcribe handwritten metadata, which produces errors. But let's say you're willing to make this compromise. +
The second axiom of Nygren / Drimmer 2023 has been considered carefully, and although the folder transcriptions are sometimes erroneous, they still support the access to images better than the previously available, unreadable OCR data. The known issues in those transcription are then taken care of continuously.

Sibelius didn't intend "Finlandia Hymn" to have any singing, but since the piece slaps, many lyrics have been written for it: Christian hymns in English and Italian, a hymn for Wales, and the national anthem of short-lived Biafra. In 1948, Sibelius gave up and arranged the Hymn for mixed choir.

Just found a whole bunch of research I did back in about 2015 on international Finnish mail routes during WW2. As one does. Anyway. Very, very excited. Here's the letter the British sent the Finns to, very politely, warn them they'd be opening their mail to the USA and South America from now on.
His majesty's principle secretary of state for foreign affairs presents his compliments to the finnish representative, and has the honour to inform him that his majesty's government in the united kingdom find it necessary, owing to the state of war existing between this country and germany, to examine certain seaborne mails on ships calling at, or diverted to, British ports in order to ascertain that they do not contain articles of contraband or obnoxious documents.

2. his majesty's government in the united kingdom desire to conduct this operation with as little inconvenience as possible to foreign nations. If it proves impracticable to send the mails on by the same vessel, they will be conveyed, after examination, to the port from which they can be most conveniently reshipped.
3. His majesty's government are prepared, as an act of grace, to grant exemption from examination to -
a) letters and postal packets which are addressed to, or bear an external indication that they eminate from a state department, embassy of legation of any power not at war with His Majesty.
b) official diplomatic and consular bags
