Everyone should know what she did in response to a thousand homes being lost to wildfire in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. She did basic income before the hundreds of new pilot experiments, not because of the evidence, but I think because of her profound sense of empathy.

The conservative neural misfire about UBI schemes is that they are all convinced that everyone will just sit around doing nothing enjoying "free money." This is a complete misunderstanding of human character. People will do jobs that they *enjoy* doing if they can afford to live doing so.

Despite all the noise today I'd really like you to read this, as I think it's crucial. The government's in the process of p*ssing up to £264 billion into the ground, at the behest of the fossil fuel industry. Yes, £264 *billion*. It's utterly mad, and has to stop. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

😡😡😡”The analysis done by private firms was sometimes so poor that NHS radiologists had to read scans again, raising questions about the benefit of outsourcing.” The government promised “the biggest wave of insourcing in a generation”. They must deliver it now.
A headline about the NHS spending on outsourcing scan analysis to private firms with a photo of radiology scans on a screen. The mood is serious and informative.

Would a Burnham led government tax wealth not work? Reverse NHS privatisation? Make Meta, Twitter and TikTok responsible for their content? End child poverty once and for all? Or are lobbysits and Labour Together embedded too deep? My analysis, as someone who knows Andy and the Labour Party well.

On Anarchism.
"When you see homelessness in a world of empty
houses, hunger in a world of wasted food, or people
working three jobs while Billionaires contemplate
buying a 3rd yacht, something inside you recoils.
.
You are not reacting to a technical problem of policy
failure; you are reacting to a moral obscenity. Your
body knows what the media refuse to say: nobody
has the right to create scarcity in a world of abundance.
The hoarding of resources by a tiny few is not natural,
inevitable, or efficient; it is enforced with violence,
deception, and political manipulation. Anarchism is
simply the refusal to accept that arrangement."

A common question nowadays: Which is better, diffusion or flow matching? 🤔 Our answer: They’re two sides of the same coin. We wrote a blog post to show how diffusion models and Gaussian flow matching are equivalent. That’s great: It means you can use them interchangeably.

We know that diffusion models learn interesting representations during training, but can we increase their generation performances by distilling representations learned by self-supervised encoders? 👀 The REPA article by Sihyun Yu et al. shows better FID + faster convergence arxiv.org/abs/2410.06940
Figure of the REPA article depicting the distillation architecture and how it speeds up training. This figure shows that the FID score decreases (better) when the visual encoder used for distillation has higher validation accuracies.
