Robert Jenrick lives in Eye Manor, a Grade 1 listed building in rural Herefordshire bought in 2009 for over £1 million. I wonder whether he’s making an effort to integrate with his neighbours, especially poorer people?

Our annual public swift walk for Swift Awareness Week. We’ve found around 50 nests on this small 1930s estate and there are certainly more. Managed to see 3 into nests tonight despite the cold wind.

There’s an application near me on brownfield site within green belt and next moorland which is SSSI. Willow tits recorded here. Because only a few very expensive vast houses (prob costing £2-3 million) this will not be covered by Biodiversity net gain - which was pretty rubbish anyway. Seething!

A lovely man, poet and Ruskinian - obituary in the print Guardian today. He was a great advocate of creative projects here - Ruskin in Sheffield - and a support to my walking play and book, Thirteen Acres, about a Ruskin communitarian experiment locally. A playful, generous, imaginative man.

This ordinary street on a thirties housing estate is full of swift nests. My 6th year of surveying 7 streets round here and have over the years identified over 50 nests. Not many about though. Have others noticed this?

LIFELINES is published today, 25 years after my wife and I arrived in northern Greece with the aim of changing our lives. It's a book about shelter and generosity, borders and brown bears, people and pelicans. It's about how the lifelines of the world hold together the greater home of us all.

This is bonkers. Care homes are closing because they can’t recruit staff. Elders are stuck in hospitals because of care home staff shortages. This is actually an opportunity to argue for the value of migrant workers but I guess that would clash with their apparent plan to Be More Reform
