We have a stack of children’s books too! Half of my registry was for kids books, many from my own childhood, preferably secondhand. Baby is going to have a love of reading, come hell or high water! Can’t wait to get them a library card.

I have an infant and we have already read “The Hobbit” and “Alice In Wonderland”. Currently reading “The Little Prince”. Toying with reading them “Kitchen Confidential” next, to break from the 1940s era were in and teach them about food.

Do we really need to explain to people that it is really, REALLY important to read to young children? Like, you, personally, need to read to your child - your voice, your face, your hand gestures, your lap, your arms, your closeness. What kind of parent doesn't know this in their bones?

One last thought, if you love apples, you can go pick some. We went to Kuiper’s farm and picked two bags of apples and got donuts and it was not crowded. All the same feels of being outside and worshipping apples without the chaos. Maybe get an apple from a local farmer and eat it in a park.

That said, we briefly popped by the Armitage county fair fest last weekend which was also a little crowded but had a lovely little time. Got cotton candy, listened to some music, had our aura photo taken, and bounced for late lunch at Leavitt St Inn. I love fall in Chicago.

we aren’t the fest or crowds type, and bailed as soon as we saw the entry lines and parking situation. Also, jokes on us for driving. Also, we have a baby so that was our excuse for driving.

My postpartum feet really hurt and none of my shoes fit. But before I run out to buy new shoes, I’m seeing a podiatrist and getting orthotics made. This is growth! This is being in my late 30s!

Westward totally sucks. to get stuff fixed (and taken seriously) i had my lawyer sister help me write a strongly worded email threatening legal action if they didn’t handle the things we needed fixed. We also go our landlord’s number and started texting him ourselves.

I think the "debate" about bringing iced coffee to job interviews is effective at distracting people from the really bad job market, the high unemployment rate for Black women, ongoing mass layoffs in tech and media, and how Gen Z workers are refusing to adopt many toxic aspects of corp work culture

It absolutely blows my mind that I can listen to an audiobook via Libby on my refurbished iPod Touch. Feels like the peak of tech. It connects to the internet, isn’t a phone, and the screen is so small that I don’t want to use it as a normal screen. It’s also the size of a pack of gum.

I went to Vaca Creamery last week, and no disrespect, but they charged $1 to add sprinkles and barely put any sprinkles on the soft serve. Rather than getting mad, I started carrying a jar of sprinkles in my purse. Added them to a restaurant sundae tonight, and it was perfect.
