Alright, so this part 2 of being sick seems to be a sinus infection. Amoxicillin it is, and back to sleep. I hope this ends soon.

Sharpless 157 is a fairly small nebula which shows up just below the center of this image. A ghostly set of green, purple, red, and yellow gaseous clouds dominate this image, lit from within by the bright stars in the center of the nebulae.

When calibrating your "flat frames" do you know why you choose to use Dark Flats or Bias frames? Your sensor has a "bias" noise that we want to calibrate out of the flat frames so that flat frames can correct for optical aberrations but there is a strange component of time you should be aware of.

Ever wondered how astrophotographers get stunning, noise-free images of deep space objects? It all starts with calibration! Calibration removes sensor noise, imperfections, and artifacts to bring out that color, contrast and signal we so cherish. Let's explore the science behind it! 🧪

As Spock would say. "Fascinating". I guess the tl;dr is if confirmed, this Timescape model could mean the perceived acceleration of the universe's expansion is an illusion caused by the uneven distribution of matter, rather than the presence of dark energy. Any other papers & blogs to read on this?

The Iris Nebula, a bright reflection nebula in the constellation Cepheus. Its NGC designation refers to the open cluster within the larger reflection nebula, illuminated by a magnitude +7.4 star. @sadrastro.com data processed by me in #Siril #GraxPert #GIMP. @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social #Astrophoto
The Iris Nebula (also known as NGC 7023 and Caldwell 4) is a bright reflection nebula in the constellation Cepheus. The designation NGC 7023 refers to the open cluster within the larger reflection nebula designated LBN 487.

The nebula, which shines at magnitude +6.8, is illuminated by a magnitude +7.4 star designated HD 200775. It is located near the Mira-type variable star T Cephei, and near the bright magnitude +3.23 variable star Beta Cephei (Alfirk). It lies 1,300 light-years away and is six light-years across.

WAKE UP BABE, THE FIRST NEW HUBBLE IMAGE OF 2025 DROPPED!!!
Many mostly small, bright objects scattered over a dark background in space. In the top half on the right is an elliptical galaxy, a round light larger than the others, with a slightly warped ring of light around it. In the bottom half there is a barred spiral galaxy, big enough that we can see its bluish arms and its core in detail. Other objects include distant galaxies and nearby stars.

A "Starless" view of the North America Nebula imaged with a hydrogen-alpha filter. This narrowband approach lets us see the intense glow of ionized hydrogen gas, a key component in star formation regions. Enjoy the details! #astrophotography 🔭
This is a monochromatic astronomical image of the North America Nebula (NGC 7000), obtained using a hydrogen-alpha narrowband filter representing the emission of hydrogen-alpha light. The image clearly outlines the nebula's namesake shape, closely resembling the continent of North America. The "western coast" of the nebula is particularly bright and well-defined, showcasing intense hydrogen emission. The "Gulf of Mexico" region is a distinct curved indentation, also exhibiting strong red coloration. Within the nebula, numerous bright knots and dark, wispy lanes create a complex and textured appearance. These dark lanes are likely dust clouds obscuring the light from behind. Faint, delicate filaments of glowing hydrogen extend outwards from the main body of the nebula, adding to its intricate structure. The surrounding background is dark, representing the emptiness of space, with a few faint background stars visible. The overall impression is a detailed and scientifically significant view of a region of intense star formation, highlighting the distribution of ionized hydrogen gas.

These days are not good at all for so many people around here, so I'll try to brighten the mood, even for a second, with a new Hubble image! 🔭 This is the NGC-5530 galaxy, as seen by Hubble earlier today. This galaxy is located some 40 million light years away. HD: flic.kr/p/2qEpfnz
A spiral galaxy seen in visible light. The spiral arms appear red/brown, with the centre appearing really bright. Some star clusters can be seen in the arms, appearing blue. Some Milky Way stars are photobombing the image, as well as background galaxies.
