Amplifying the call from Marc Delcroix and co. over the weekend: the team are looking to verify/refute a potential impact on #Saturn on July 5th, 09:00-09:15UT. Videos taken by amateur observers at that time might hold the key. This 📸 credit: Mario Rana pvol2.ehu.eus/pvol2/news/v...

There was a total lunar eclipse the other day. I was very excited to see it and potentially get a few photos. Unfortunately, because there was an interesting astronomical event, NJ weather obliged as it usually does.

Still haven't gotten the rig outside. Here's an image I did of NGC 3718. It's a rather interesting galaxy, reminiscent of Centauras A. Just over 17 hours LRGB with my 8" EdgeHD and 294MM Pro. #astrophotography #astronomy #space #nightsky #galaxies

No new photons of my own. However, @sadrastro.com provided a dataset of the #northamericanebula and #pelicannebula taken at their remote observatory. Also, www.setiastro.com just released the "Perfect Palette Picker" tool. Here's the image I created. #astrophotography #astronomy #space #nightsky

This is a target I go back to nearly every winter. Bode's Galaxy (M81) shot with my 8" EdgeHD, 294MM Pro and Chroma LRGB filters. To the left is Holmberg IX. This is about 16.5 hours taken over a few nights in February of 2023. #astronomy #astrophotography #space #galaxy

Ugh. 2024 can’t end soon enough. My mother passed away on Sunday. Today I was informed by the company I’ve worked with for the past 5 years that there just wasn’t anything in the pipeline for me in 2025 and they were terminating my contract. So, now I’m looking for work.

On December 24, 1968, the Apollo 8 astronauts became the first humans to orbit the moon and capture the famous Earthrise photograph. #onthisday
The historic Earthrise photograph taken by Apollo 8 astronaut Bill Anders on December 24, 1968, shows Earth appearing to rise over the Moon's gray, barren horizon. The half-Earth is a stunning blue and white marble suspended in the black void of space, with swirling white cloud patterns over blue oceans. The stark, monochromatic lunar surface appears in the foreground, creating a dramatic contrast with our vibrant planet. This was the first time humans witnessed and photographed Earth rising over another celestial body

Day 14 of the 2024 Space Telescope Advent Calendar - A Sky Full of Stars. Open cluster Westerlund 1, some 12,000 light-years away, is a super star cluster: containing hundreds of very massive stars, some shining with a brilliance of a million Suns www.theatlantic.com/photo/2024/1...
Hundreds of bright and differently-colored stars, seen in a cluster, with most stars displaying six long diffraction spikes, artifacts of the telescope's structure (ESA/Webb, NASA & CSA, M. Zamani, M. G. Guarcello)

For those who aren’t rope droppers, the new multi-pass at #WDW is terrible. Multi-tiered system where you have to pick rides 7 days out. The old system was much better.

So I rented a Tesla Model 3 for the week. After driving it for 4 days, I’m not impressed. Lots of road noise. Rather uncomfortable ride all around. Guess I had higher expectations for it. Definitely a lot of cool tech in it, though. Too many bells and whistles at the expense of substance.

I’m not always pointing a camera and scope up to the skies. Sometimes I like to enjoy a bit of magic right here on this blue marble we call home. Today I got to try a little bit of culinary magic. These are called cheeseburger pods and are available at Satu’li Canteen at Animal Kingdom. So good!
