For all the laughable moments of Mamdani/Trump meeting, I do think it matters that someone, Mamdani, said Israel is committing genocide in the Oval Office during a press conference.

As @raeoflion.bsky.social and I wrote in this article featuring Rae's video: A report from the California Health Care Foundation found that 10 percent cut to HCBS programs would lead to $1 billion more in Medicaid spending in the state... due to the greater overall costs of institutionalization.

To illustrate the state of life in America right now: Several journalists who were bleeding and needed stitches because of assaults by LAPD drove around to urgent care facilities only to find them closed, then wavered on going to emergency rooms because of high costs of treatment there.

10. The insurance model is a rationing system. ‘Coverage’ is a euphemism for controlled scarcity. They don’t just decide what care you get—they decide if you’re worth the cost.

9. Disability politics asks: what would an economy look like if keeping each other alive was the highest value? Not GDP, not productivity—but the refusal to abandon anyone. Disability pride is also a revolution in how we define wealth.

1. Disability is a site of class struggle because it exposes the lie of meritocracy. We show that survival isn’t earned—it’s organized, or it doesn’t happen at all.

PSA: There’s a difference between wearing a mask or respirator & wearing a gaiter or face covering to disguise identity. It’s important to discern & communicate this nuance because if you don’t, you might encourage elected officials to ban masks for everyone, which would be a public health disaster.

Disability Rights California Appalled by Cuts to Medicaid in “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” | Disability Rights California

Hi friends. The "big brutal bill" passed the Senate today. We expect the House to vote tomorrow. This bill is an enormous transfer of wealth from the masses to the wealthiest few. It takes away health care & food from millions of people to give tax cuts to billionaires and to fund ICE's terror.

My daughter relies on Medicaid. We don't "get" Medicaid. We don't receive a check from Medicaid. Medicaid covers her life-saving medical expenses. Medicaid is health insurance. Medicaid is health care. That's what Medicaid is. And that's why we need our senators to #VoteNo and #ProtectMedicaid.

What people don't seem to understand is that even if *they* are not using Medicaid, a large share of their providers' patient population does. That means that their healthcare providers may be unable to stay solvent and in practice when Medicaid is cut. We all lose when Medicaid is cut.

Since the House Energy and Commerce Committee reported out its bill last Wednesday, there have been two sets of language revisions that have made the #Medicaid cuts even more draconian, not less. So the coverage losses and damaging impact will certainly be greater and take effect sooner (9/x)

Pretty much every detained imm. court session now includes someone who is subject to mandatory ICE detention under the Laken Riley Act for no better reason than they were once *charged* with extremely minor theft offenses. Even if those charges were dismissed. I'm never forgiving Dems for this

From NBC News (1/20/25):

The Democrats who voted yes were Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen of Nevada, John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Ruben Gallego of Arizona, Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, Mark Kelly of Arizona, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock of Georgia, Gary Peters and Elissa Slotkin of Michigan and Mark Warner of Virginia.

The #CALeg May Revise is a disaster for our state—“balancing” the budget by cutting social services from the most vulnerable Californians. This is a policy CHOICE. The legislature could recoup the deficit in other ways, like closing corporate loopholes. #CABudget

I read through the House Energy & Commerce bill to cut #Medicaid. Here’s a thread of some of the provisions, but in summary: it’s a set of cruel cuts to eligibility and coverage for services that keep people alive. The policy lingo and exhausting list of policies is trying to distract from this.

We NEED you to help protect Medicaid! Congress is considering cuts to Medicaid right now. All the policy proposals being considered would take away needed health care and home and community-based services from people with disabilities. Form Link: www.disabilityrightsca.org/latest-news/...

Body Text (Yellow): Use the form in the link to demand Congress save Medicaid! In the center is a white graphic of a heart monitor beat with the middle in the shape of a heart.Header Text: Proposal: Bold Text: Work Requirements. Header Text: Reality: Body Text: - People would lose Medicaid because someone decides they are “not disabled enough.”
- Caregivers would lose Medicaid because they can’t prove their caregiving work on a form.
- Disabled people would lose Medicaid because of administrative mistakes.Header Text: Proposal: Bold Text: Decreasing Federal Match for the Medicaid Expansion Population. Header Text: Reality: Body Text: - More than 2/3rds of people with disabilities enrolled in Medicaid are enrolled through non-SSI pathways, and many of these individuals are enrolled through the expansion pathway.
- Disabled people who are not on Social Security Income (SSI), like people who make too much for SSI but are still low income, would lose Medicaid.Header Text: Proposal: Bold Text: Per Capita Caps, Block Grants, and/or Restricting Provider Taxes. Header Text: Reality: Body Text: - The state would have less money to spend on Medicaid.
- With less money to spend on Medicaid, disabled people would either have their benefits cut or eligibility taken away.
