Which is also why I made this figure for this relevant paper (tiny btw only like 2 pages). Guest, O., Blokpoel, M.& van Rooij, I. (2026). What the Func? Multiple Realizability Need not be Vague. Zenodo. doi.org/10.5281/zeno... 2/2
Figure 1 in the linked PDF

Figure 1. Relationships between the system under study S and models M. The single solid line
is relationships within the neurocognitive system. Double solid lines represent the theoretical
mapping proposed between S to M. The dashed line links M to its digital substrate. Dotted lines
represent relationships to lower substrates.

I'm still feeling like I've not committed fully to NeuroAI from a computational neuroimaging (CN) perspective. My thought is, I've never saw any direct implications in CN to NAI (therefore I'm lacking motivation), so if someone has any views / regards for this Id be very appreciated ^^

1/2) Please let's all remember that GWT is a theoy of access consciousness (what is available for verbal reasoning) and not phenomenal consciousness (subjective experience): philpapers.org/rec/BLOOAC Obviously, in this study access consciousness is literally what they test in the LLMs. #NeuroAI 🧪

Sorry, I've been under a rock - have computational neuroscientists now concluded that computation has nothing to do with the brain?

Can AI do neuroscience without understanding?
Prediction without understanding sustained astronomy through a thousand years of epicycles. Artificial intelligence is now offering neuroscience the same deal.

Researchers say they have their reasons for avoiding AI tools — and they’re sick of arguing about it.

The principle of emergence, from CompCogNeuro book, chapter 1
Figure 1.1: The principle of emergence, simply illustrated. The gears on the left do not interact, and nothing interesting
happens. However, on the right, the interaction between the gears produces interesting, useful phenomena that cannot
be reduced to the individual gears separately. For example, the little gear will spin faster, but the larger one will
have higher torque at its axel — these properties would be entirely different if either gear interacted with a different
sized gear. Furthermore, the material that the gear is made from really doesn’t matter very much — the same basic
behavior would be produced by plastic, metal, wood, etc. Thus, even in this simple case, there is something just
slightly magical and irreducible going on — when two gears get together, something emerges that is more than the
sum of the parts, and exists in a way independent of the parts, even while being entirely dependent on actually having
those parts to make it happen. This is a good analogy for the relationship between the mind and the brain, and
computer models can capture many complex interactions between neurons in the brain, and reveal nonobvious kinds
of emergence.
