Xenonauts 2 recreates the big part of the X-COM experience which is that you try to train up alternates outside of your core group but they keep dying while the core group is so godlike that they never actually die so it all kinda works out

Progression of the Xenonauts 2 air game is like Struggle to kill anything > Get missiles, become untouchable > UFOs advance, game is balanced for 3 hours > UFOs advance again, absolutely miserable mid game > get the tier 2 fighter, become untouchable again Still better than any mainline XCOM lol
