We have written our names in the sand, for centuries, the same small sign. Different hands, different lives, yet always leaving the same line. We come and go, as tides have done, all different, and all the same.

Couldn’t resist posting another view of the ancient holloway. It’s part of a very old route from Gloucester to Cirencester called the Bisley Path.

Love how this dude discovered the cheat codes of "what if I listened to constituents" and "what if I modeled good behavior" and "maybe I behave like a normal person should." These are apparently dark secrets that have been hidden from other politicians.

🧵 6 posts. Plantation wealth left a lasting mark on Yorkshire through its grand country houses and estates. Profits from Caribbean plantations enabled wealthy British families to buy land, build homes, and secure social and political influence, embedding colonial wealth into the county's landscape.
An 1823 aquatint titled "Cutting the Sugar-Cane," depicting enslaved Africans harvesting sugarcane on a plantation in Antigua. It was created by William Clark for his publication, Ten Views of the Island of Antigua. It illustrates enslaved people harvesting cane with machetes while a white plantation overseer watches from horseback.

An ancient oak tree fills the image. Its bark is filled with bumps and moss and three large sections of the tree spread out like arms.

Sometimes known as Macbeth's Oak, it is the oldest living tree of Birnam Wood, which was mentioned in Shakespeare's Macbeth.

Located in the outer edge of Perthshire Village in Scotland, the exact age of this tree is unknown, but it is thought to be between 500-600 years old.

A tree is not merely wood; it is a natural air conditioner, a source of oxygen, a support for rainfall, and a sanctuary for birds. It is a safeguard for our future. When we cut down trees, we lose more than just greenery; we invite heat, drought, pollution, and suffering. 🌳 Save trees. Save lives.

🧵Today is Windrush Day. Alford Gardner’s journey crossed oceans to reshape the social history of Yorkshire. This image shows the before-and-after portrait of Alford Gardner, a prominent member of the Windrush generation who served in the RAF and later helped rebuild post-war Britain. During WWII, he joined the RAF as ground crew and was part of the first batch of recruits from the West Indies to arrive in England on June 3, 1944 After the war, he returned to Jamaica but came back to the UK as a passenger on the HMT Empire Windrush, docking at Tilbury Docks on June 22, 1948.Settling in Leeds: Gardner settled in Leeds, where he lived for decades, married, and raised eight children. He co-wrote a memoir titled Finding Home: A Windrush Story with his son Howard and is a key figure in documenting the experiences of Caribbean migrants in BritainDuring World War II, a bustling Butlin’s holiday camp in Filey was transformed into RAF Hunmanby Moor, a vital training ground for 4,000 West Indian and Caribbean volunteers serving in the British Commonwealth forces. Following a long-running campaign to secure a permanent home for their memory, a blue plaque was finally unveiled on April 1, 2023. Located on a private building on Filey's Queen Street, this poignant memorial ensures that the immense contribution of these wartime servicemen is never forgotten by the Yorkshire coast.
