it's a mistake, and downstream from other worse things, that governments are obsessed with selling major sporting events through their economic impact—which is basically fake—rather than their societal value, which is on the one hand immeasurable, but on the other hand also immeasurable.

You're a rent seeker
It's an economist insult. It's devastating.
You're devastated right now.

We’re especially eager to add to our department’s diversity: women, persons of color, LGBTQ+, persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. @aeacswep.bsky.social @aeacsmgep.bsky.social @aeacsqiep.bsky.social

And of course we’re in Boston, an amazing cosmopolitan city (you’re likely familiar with it!). And we’re on a beautiful campus that’s abutted by two T lines and has easy parking, plus D-1 sports and a great arts scene. 7/x

And the econ PoP role is especially great, as we’re paid like tenure-track faculty and not looked at like second-class citizens. We are actively involved in the life of the department: thesis advising, academic advising, undergrad research supervision, etc. 6/x

BC is a great place to be a PoP, as most other departments have similar positions, so it’s easy to find like-minded collaborators and friends for team teaching (like our core renewal classes), guest lectures, pursuing research ideas, or just socializing. 5/x www.bc.edu/bc-web/schoo...

If you’re not familiar with the idea of a Professor of the Practice, it’s a non-tenured, contract position (most likely for 3 years at a time), but the assumption is that you’ll be renewed and get to stay with us for the long haul – if we do our hiring well, anyway! 4/x

I love my job: I get to focus on teaching our awesome undergrads who really do want to be “men and women for others,” and get them excited about research and public policy, but I also have a reasonable teaching load where I can teach what I want. 3/x

Boston College’s Economics Department is hiring another Professor of the Practice (PoP), focusing on folks who teach undergrad Econometrics, Statistics, and a great elective (of their choosing). 2/x

Hey #econsky: are you a researcher who secretly prefers your side teaching gig? Or is tenure looking like a reach because you “teach too much”? Or a liberal arts prof who’d prefer a big city with a larger pool of impressive, thoughtful students? Come be a Boston College PoP! 1/x

Michigan follows up on their national championship by ending the season with victories over Ohio State and Alabama, presumably to repeat as national champions but I'm not checking
