Calling for help isn’t weakness. It’s a patient safety intervention. A sign of strength! And when learners see that, they learn that patient safety matters much more than protecting our image. Where could an earlier call widen the room in your work this week? #psychsafety

That’s a non-technical skill: • Notice the mismatch • Make the risk visible • Invite another perspective • Act while there’s still room to choose well

I remember a C-section where the anatomy just wasn’t behaving as expected. The uterus was rotated. My usual approach no longer felt reliable. So I called a trusted colleague. Another perspective helped me recognize the anatomy, correct course, and complete the case safely.

The most senior person in the room should not be the last person to call for help. In surgery, we value independence: Staying calm. Making decisions. But independence becomes unsafe when it stops us from recognizing our blind spots....

The reports about the rapes at Cornell—and the lack of accountability—are sickening. So is the victim blaming: “If you don’t want to be raped, don’t go to a frat party.” Instead of telling girls and women to avoid harm, we should be raising boys and men not to commit it: Don’t. Rape. Women.

In the OR, psych safety matters because people need to feel safe to speak up, question, and disagree. Peace isn’t the absence of disagreement. It’s creating enough safety and respect for disagreement to happen. 🕊️ Peace is something we can all practice. #InvestInPeace

🕊️ Today is the International Day of Peace. Peace isn’t just something negotiated by governments. We build it in everyday moments: • Speaking up when someone is bullied • Making space for quieter voices • Challenging behaviour that creates fear or silence

Because structured reflection is useful. But when it becomes cognitive looping, replaying the same conversation or case without generating anything new, it is rumination. Which helps no one! The goal is to say to monkey mind: I’ve reflected enough. It’s time to let it go. #ReflectivePractice
