Magical creatures don’t exist, eh? Roughly 400 million years ago, before the birth of trees, there were giant mystery cones called “Prototaxites,” which grew nearly 30 feet tall. We literally have no idea what they were. Plant: no Mushroom: no Animal: no Tell me this isn’t a little bit magic

Temperatures in the Central Pacific El Niño region are the hottest ever measured (top panel), and far above any other El Niño at this time of year. But, if you adjust for the warming of the global ocean, the current trajectory is not so different from other very strong events.
Two panel plot showing daily time series of temperature anomalies in the Central Pacific Nino3.4 region during the last four strongest El Niño events without and with correction for changes in global ocean mean temperature.

Russisk droneangreb rammer Ukraines Nationale Videnskabsakademi

Building in NL's deepest polder (Zuidplaspolder) is a risky gamble. At almost 7 m below sea level, brackish groundwater is seeping up. Building on this weak peat soil requires lowering water levels, causing the land to sink. Houses stay up on piles, but streets, gardens and pipes simply sink away.
An abstract, colorful map based on a digital elevation model showing a grid-like network of ditches and fields, overlaid with fluid, organic textures in shades of orange, copper, white and dark purple, which are old creeks in coastal peat. The image resembles an intricate electronic circuit board or a textured tapestry, with a small text box in the bottom right corner reading "HydrologyNL".
