Kobo have blocked publication of one of our books We don't want to say too much about the specifics as we try to get to the bottom of the situation and get it resolved, but we're VERY angry - and would no longer recommend any reader uses the platform vs AMZ, etc (1/3)

❗❗❗ HEY YOU WHO BOUGHT MY FIRST BOOK, THIS IS HOW IMMORTALS DIE ❗❗❗ I've uploaded the upgraded file to itch, so if you bought it there and haven't read it yet, be sure to download the new version first! If you bought the physical version and want the upgraded ebook, DM me, and I'll send you a copy.

Cover of This Is How Immortals Die by Nicole Hidalgo, made by David Leahey on Reedsy. It depicts the heavenly beautiful face of a woman (Aphrodite herself), a tear sliding down her only visible eyes, her hair flowing and blending in with the star-studded dark blue and purple cosmos behind her.

The author's name, Nicole Hidalgo, is on top, while the title, This Is How Immortals Die, sits at the bottom. Some letters are stylised as Greek letters.

down their throats and the readers made me so angry. it's the sort of thing i can't reconcile with, the way white people did their utmost WORSE to eradicate the richness and the beauty of different cultures everywhere they went, and how they took, and took, and took and destroyed. makes me sick.

I often felt disgusted and sick at how colonisers wiped that very culture from them, and the religiousness being shoved

"Almost all the graves are grown-over with weeds. Tall grasses and creeping vines smother granite slabs and stretch like grim green fingers toward gently sloped mounds. My hindbrain deliberates the likelihood that most of those buried here predate the island’s liberation, but then, why would the organizers of a conversion camp bother with tombstones? An unmarked pit is surely good enough for delinquent bones." - The Erstwhile Tyler Kyle

I make risotto every other Sunday - Mushroom and cabbage is a firm fave around here, btw. I don't do vegan risotto (i use homemade chicken or fish stock) unless i'm out of stock and then i'll soak dry mushrooms and use that stock instead which actually enhances flavour. Try cooking it one day

Ruth Miranda @ruthmiranda.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

risotto is technically rice - it's a specific type of small rice like arborio or carnarolli and also the method in which this rice is cooked. so, rice. risotto is probs my fave dish, alongside Chinese/Korean hotpot and congee. I am a risotto snob, through and through ahahh.

"I glance back at the blackened windows of the hotel office. Inside, an electronic device blinks off-on-off-on like a flickering modem light. Something about this struggling machine on an island technologically trapped in the 1850s compels me. I stand in front of the window, press my palm to the glass. I stare inside, and though I can’t place why, for only a moment, it’s like someone’s staring back. Like the machine is an eye—blinking, assessing, watching.
The breeze ripples against Three Wolf Moon. It could be Echo Island’s breath, a deep exhale after years holding it all in." - The Erstwhile Tyler Kyle

He's standing in the woods looking warily to his right while holding a glowing cellphone in his left hand. The forest is lit in red and Tyler is lit in red and blue.
