The press threw everything they could muster at the Greens last week. They even wheeled out disgraced Nick Cohen to have a pop. Still Polanski came a close second to a Labour candidate riding the “Burnham Bounce” Today same press are saying it’s a terrible loss for Polanski and he should resign 🤷‍♀️

I know. It so horrible. I have many junior colleagues who are finding it incredibly hard to get jobs because despite great publications these will not count for any institution that hires them. 🤷‍♀️

And, using the work of someone a university has “let go” for their REF submission is one thing, but publishers insisting you affiliate to them after you have left means they don’t just own your work whilst you are employed, but also your name and identity 🤷‍♀️

…Or have made us redundant. Unis render us dispensable whilst our work is “proof” of the quality of their research. REF 2029 has made us “content creators” Journals (bizarrely) are colluding. REF should reward institutions that recognize good research is created by good researchers.
