We urgently need action commensurate to the threat: that includes (amongst much else) bolstering our fire service with more resources (how is it that the UK still has not a single water bomber for aerial firefighting?), increased windfall taxes on fossil fuel giants to fund adaptation measures, funded cool spaces in every community, mandatory grey water reuse in new buildings, and a maximum workplace temperature.

We need to picture worst-case scenarios, and best-case scenarios (and scenarios in between!). That is to say: We need to picture dystopias: plausible destinations of the road we are already on, laid out plainly as warnings. And we need to picture vital thrutopias: life-affirming futures that pass through hardship without denying it. (Leave utopias aside: they are for the birds, now.)
