Downpour doesn't get enough credit. One underrated aspect of it that I really appreciate is how much the game builds on Silent Hill as a tourist town. Downpour's version of SH really feels like a tourist town thanks to the mines.

The Silent Hill Chronicle offers the idea that the fog could represent or manifest the thoughts of the many dead people at the bottom of Toluca Lake from over the years. This includes the casualties of an epidemic, the missing Little Baroness ship, and the blood of executed prisoners.

Alex's desperate fights for the murdered children, even if he was fighting unknowingly for that purpose, always meant a lot to me. Alex being a decendant of the founders makes him the closest Silent Hill has gotten to a prince or chosen one type character. Homecoming is a gem.

I love emulation. This shade of green is much nicer than the original gameboy's green, yet it still looks authentic to the intended experience. Dot matrix and ghosting still present, just a nicer color and bolder contrast.

Video games are more expensive than ever. If third parties were allowed to distribute ps games, legally & with royalties to sony, then we'll get more varied box arts & prices will go down to complete, & we may even see the return of game manuals from higher end distributers.

The Night Scenes Series -
Lovely design from a series of 21 night scenes first published by Hasegawa/Nishinomiya in the 1910s. The series was quite popular with editions printed up through the 1930s and even later. Beautifully colored and printed, these classic shin-hanga designs are a favorite with collectors.

I love how monsters with visible eyes are a rarity in Silent Hill. The only monster in Homecoming with eyes is Amnion. But her's are closed. SH3 nurses have eyes but they're always looking down. Why? Really makes you think.

Very much did! Game crashed out on me after the last cutscene before the ending, but apparently I was set for the UFO ending, which I find probably the one really weird choice of Homecoming, being able to get that on a first playthrough. Apart from that and some combat issues, absolutely top game.
