Shit, and now that I'm thinking about it more, almost every time my dad has said something racist/sexist/ablest his voice would change like he's doing a bit or something.

It was ABRUPT. I think I may have even said something but I don't remember exactly (I may have said something to my mom when he gave the phone to her to go pout or whatever). Like you could hear his brain change gears or turn off or whatever.

During Trumpv1 I was driving from Fresno to LA and my dad called me out of the blue and we chatted for a while & when he started talking politics & praising Trump, he started slurring his words. And when I said, "No, you voted against everything you taught me was important," the slurring stopped.

Yeah, I would be ecstatic for protected bike lanes. I've been hit by a car while riding my bike. As far as helmet laws, I'm familiar with the practice and we're going to have to agree to disagree on opposition to them.

I honestly just want the ebikes off of the fucking sidewalks and at those speeds the helmet laws need to be enforced more strictly. They're motor vehicles that are way better for everyone than the alternative motor vehicles, so a few rules rather than bans should fix things.

Clicked post before I was done... Anyway, that irony has given "I learned it by watching you" more staying power. So I'd say today it has a higher penetration into the social conscious, even if that's lower than the levels reached by "This is your brain on drugs"

Matt Robold (rumdood) @rumdood.com · 20h
I think at its peak, "This is your brain on drugs" had the higher social penetration, but "I learned it by watching you" really appeals to the desire for irony and mocking people with authority.

Am I alone in reading "dang, that's crazy" and suddenly casting Josh Johnson in the role of this supposed CIA analyst?

ICE is now lying in wait outside convenience stores, or at busy intersections. Agents are arresting people at international airports. Local police and sheriffs, deputized by the federal government, are detaining immigrants during traffic stops. ICE is now detaining more immigrants than ever before.
A chart that shows a timeline of ICE immigration enforcement against different significant events (Los Angeles raids, Minneapolis and Chicago raids), with a line in late March 2026 that says "New enforcement strategy begins" before a peak of over 1,500 daily arrests in July 2026.

This is my problem. The help it could potentially provide me is astronomical in scope - but I absolutely will not trust Mark Zuckerberg with that level of access to my life.

I think the one thing I'm occasionally bitter about is getting my diagnosis in my 40s, telling my parents, and their reaction being "yeah, that makes sense." I have to remind myself that feeling that way when more people know more about ADHD is different than what they knew/felt in the 80s/90s

And I have had so many similar thoughts about how precarious my path to my current life was and how easily I could have ended up in bad alternatives. This thought is a constant hum in my brain ever since kids came along.

I failed out of college in the 1990s and then ended up working in tech so I got pretty lucky. When I went back to school in my 30s I was astounded how much easier it was - entirely because I had built up so many systems to help me navigate life. And then I got diagnosed in my 40s & so much clicked.

I cannot express enough how annoying it is to try and watch sports playoffs these days. I just went to check where/how to watch the WNBA playoffs and basically I'd need like 5 different streaming services. This sucks.

I built a Telegram bot to handle important reminders/tasks a few years ago. Started as an Azure Function basically running a cron to remind me to take my pills twice a day. Would be neat if I could have it do more than badger me to get things done and alert me to certain emails.

This was fantastic. The "Staying Alive" b-roll alone makes it worth the time. Feels corny to say "I appreciate you going on all these cruises to give some perspective on the different providers" but I do. Signed, A Parent of a 10yo and a 7yo who want a "big" vacation next summer.

I think this is the correct interpretation. People aren't necessarily paying attention to the official platform put together every four years. They are talking about what the priority of talking points is

For a long time I've been annoyed that, as a country, we have always failed to celebrate Constitution Day. We celebrate declaring our independence but not winning it and most Americans never even know that we didn't just spring out of Washington's loins as a fully formed constitutional republic.

And they have thrown holy fits because instructors who were assigned the task of evaluating how students might use LLMs ethically were doing the research and not just saying "they can't - end of story."

I can say that, based on my wife's colleagues, there are plenty of Bluesky Anti attitudes out in the wild. There's a cabal of instructors at her school who have been trying to get the grammar check tool that students have banned because it uses AI.

One of my least favorite brain quirks is being somehow amazing at making connections and seeing the big picture and also able to say "My car will be ready for pickup in 2 hours" and 30 seconds later offer to drive something over to the same person I just said that to.

I have small children and only recently have I really been able to go back to movies. You know what I've had time for though? Listening to 2-4 hours of media analysis on ever movie and TV show released in the past 50 years while doing dishes/laundry/etc.

From the mutuals I have with her I do not have the impression that the job created the behavior towards staff. It may have made it worse, but it was already a known issue. I really loved her work in the House and wish she was still there doing it.

Why do people keep reading this as though it's about pets smoking when it is CLEARLY a prohibition on smoking your barefoot pets in the building, which is just common sense? You should operate your smoker OUTSIDE.

When the app updated at some point a few weeks ago, it dropped our unit number from the address, and she still showed up at our door, told us to double check the app because of the lack of the number, but she knew it was our pizza based on the order

We order pizza almost every Saturday from a place that has its own drivers. They're on an app, but the app doesn't handle the delivery, just allows me to order while doing parent stuff. I picked up our pizza today and saw the driver, who stopped and said hi and teased me, asking if I was mad at her

My neighbor once came home to pick up his kids and ran inside....and was in the bathroom for 10 minutes before another neighbor walked over to his truck and shut it off. Of course that neighbor and his wife both work from home, in sales, so he does sales his calls in his truck, while it idles...

Motorcycles are the fucking worst. Large trucks left idling are a close second (our immediate neighbors let their massive Dodge truck idle for 5-10 minutes outside sometimes). Motorcycles tho. Death penalty. Display their owners' heads at the city limits as a warning to others.
