stop using AI to do your research. it hallucinates too often. if you want an answer to something, post something arrogant on the appropriate subreddit. something like: "this item performs 10% better than everything else. only idiots deny this." this will bait nerds into doing your research for you.

Shop at smaller independent local stores where you can meet and know the owners. Plus it's great to know the people who run the businesses you are supporting. Community! We are very lucky this is so convenient in San Francisco.

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque: "This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".
Bronze plaque saying "A Letter to the Future. Ok is the first Icelandic glacier to lose its status as a glacier. In the next 200 years all our glaciers are expected to follow the same path. This monument is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it. August 2019. 415ppm CO2"

What 1-3 things, if they go really well, will lead to success even if everything else is mid or bad? Those are the things you have to focus on. And if you don’t know the answer, you’re blindly walking around, and therefore will probably fail.

Hi, our company has tried out several AI note taking solutions. I can tell you two things: 1) Every product we've tried constantly mischaracterizes meetings (hallucinating new topics, mixing up facts, etc.) 2) Half our employees do not notice the AI mischaracterizing their own meetings.

behold the "HTML bomb" It's a counterattack for AI companies that persistently scrape and rescrape your web site, even when you tell them not to when a scraper grabs it, it becomes a 10-gig HTML page and 💣 goes the scraper Item #6 in my latest "Linkfest" newsletter: buttondown.com/clivethompso...

A pixelated frowning file icon with Xs for eyes appears at the top left. Below, the error code reads “Out of Memory,” suggesting the browser ran out of system resources. The page includes a “Reload” button in blue on the bottom right

Exactly. And beyond that it's figuring out why the organization isn't doing what the evidence suggests they should. Anyone who understands anything about human decision-making gets that *knowing* things is often the least of the problem.

The less time you spend thinking about or reading about or reacting to or writing about what anyone else is doing, the more time and positive energy you have to make your product the absolute best. Which is how you will win.
