Finnish aid worker Roope Mustonen, who has supported Ukraine since the Russian invasion, faces a controversial trial after a fatal car accident. His heavy sentence and long detention raise concerns of corruption within the local legal system. yle.fi/a/74-20227472

Do you love maps? Of course you do! With the latest release of #ggsql we now support spatial plotting directly from your database. As a cherry on top, the release also provides powerful in-layer aggregation. Read all about it on the blog

You probably saw `filter_out()` in {dplyr} 1.2.0 but did you notice `when_any()` and `when_all()`? Not only is it easier to write conditions, but the usage of commas instead of | and & means formatters like air will align all conditions the same 🤩 #rstats dplyr.tidyverse.org/reference/wh...

dplyr 1.2.0 is out now and we are SO excited! - `filter_out()` for dropping rows - `recode_values()`, `replace_values()`, and `replace_when()` that join `case_when()` as a complete family of recoding/replacing tools These are huge quality of life wins for #rstats! tidyverse.org/blog/2026/02...

A blue hexagon on a white background. Inside the hexagon is a grid of much smaller hexagons. Most of these are dark blue, but some of the small hexagons are lighter blue and spell out the letters SF. On top of the grid is the text sfhotspot.

{ralger} #rstats package looks like an absolute game changer in the task of web scraping for people with very occasional need in this rather nerdy task 🤩 Instead of drilling manually through cached HTML, one can use intuitively named functions that just do it ✨ 🔗 feddelegrand7.github.io/ralger/

Ever needed to recode a variable based on whether it matches something in a named list? Have you ever used rlang's `!!!` operator? It's pretty dang cool. I feel like {rlang} is so cool, but so enigmatic 😂 #rstats Here's a pic & gist (bc it's frustrating to not be able to copy/paste the pic) #databs
A screenshot showing the use of a named list in R to help recode a variable using the mutate function and the recode function from dplyr. The code uses the !!! operator from the rlang package as well to avoid retyping the named list inside the recode function.

I find the lack of empathy among #dataviz practitioners a bit disturbing. Many of you know of my suffering this time of year, when the Portuguese Homeland Security Report is published, full of pages like this. And yet no one ever offered me temporary asylum to minimize the impact. It's unforgivable.

Many people talk about the "Golden Age of Antibiotics", but I hadn't seen it visualized properly. Just how many types of antibiotics were discovered during that time? So, I visualized it myself!
A timeline titled "The Golden Age of Antibiotics" shows when each antibiotic drug class was first available for medical use, with example antibiotics labeled. Classes are color-coded by their source: actinomycetes, other bacteria, fungi, or synthetic. Milestones include the first antibiotics (arsphenamines in 1910), as well as the discovery of many actinomycetes-derived antibiotics, such as streptomycin, and sulfonamides, penicillins, and tetracyclines. Data: Hutchings, Truman, Wilkinson (2019). Created by Saloni Dattani for Our World in Data.
