Great thread. And the moral of this story I think is this keeps happening until we gate social media with the only tool that works: Registration Fees. Pay $20 for an account, get banned for being obnoxious, a ton of this becomes far easier to handle (because reg fees pay for paid moderation)

This reminds me of how in the Pony fandom, the earlier fanfics were often so much more daring - because the vast majority of the world lay unrevealed. As more terrain filled in, stories homogenized over time. Still good, but less ambitious.
