Don't get overwhelmed - something you can do right now, today, is donate to WIWL's Women in Palestine Fundraiser: www.eventbrite.com/e/reschedule... THIS Friday - not to be missed Free Palestine.
I was recently struck by the above video posted to Instagram by Jen Brister, a British comedian. While she is not someone that I turn to for political activation, her animation re-invigorated something in me which I am hoping to share with all of you. In the video she describes a sense of global overwhelm, an overwhelm which I certainly feel, which might make us want to look away from genocide in Palestine, and our general epoch of global chaos. I would like to share her words with you, because they have woken me back up, and I think someone reading this might need that, too. She says:

“WIth the closure of the borders in Gaza famine is coming. And what they want is for people like me to give up. To make it so impossible that we think there’s nothing more we can do. We’re just going to have to let those people die. But we will not do that. We will not turn away, and we will not take a step back. We’re going to take a step forward and we’re going to say to Israel ‘fuck you’. The resistance continues and we’re gonna keep people alive. […] Please don’t disengage […] because we have a shared humanity and we owe it not just to those people in those countries, we owe it to ourselves to keep our humanity, so that’s why we keep going”.

Disengagement is the point of regimes and systems that overwhelm us, they give us too many fronts to fight on so that we become diffused and unable to access communities who care about the same things that we do. But what we - including you - can do, today, right now, is focus on one thing at a time. Below the WIWL collective has organised two opportunities to continue resisting and keeping people alive. Join us, donate what you can, and remember that we are powerful as a community. Don’t get overwhelmed, get angry.Friday 20th March - 4PM UK/ 6PM Palestine (time converter here)

- Online event -

Women in World-Literature will be launching a statement in support of Palestine and Palestinian scholarship. Alongside of this, we are holding an online fundraising event celebrating Palestinian women in the afternoon of Friday 20th March 2026 via Teams.

This event will raise money through optional donations at ticketing for Academic Solidarity with Palestine and Medical Action Palestine.

We will welcome Palestinian feminist and peacebuilder Huda Abu Arqoub, Gazan translator Shams Mazen Rajab, Assistant Professor at Bethlehem University Shada Shahin, and filmmaker Joy Stacey to enjoy a screening of her film, She the Steadfast (2023).

A pinboard with a variety of posters, including one for a Gazan fundraising campaign (https://gofund.me/5d6cf1bd), a James Baldwin quote stating “every bombed villagers my hometown”, another graphic poster which repeats “there is enough if we share”, a graphic poster saying “AI is for Losers - I can make art that’s ugly and bad all by myself thank you very much” and a two page guide on trans inclusion after the EHRX ruling in the UKAn image with the previous pin bird and posters which includes a door to the right with trans inclusion and anti fascist posters, and a poster for the Women in World-Literature Climate Crisis and Contagion conference from 2025

IMO Guillermo del Toro should be given whatever budget he needs to make whichever movie he wants every year or two. He isn't going to be around forever, which means there's a finite amount of del Toro movies that will get to exist, and we should be paving the way for his projects as long as possible
