To the British Museum to see the Bayeux Tapestry. The BM has decided to not allow any photography but there are great photos in the exhibition catalogue and a very nice tote bag depicting a key moment at the Battle of Hastings available in the gift shop.

Ramses & The Pharaohs' Gold exhibition at Neon, Battersea Power Station, London on it's world tour. Featuring 180 treasures that normally live in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, the exhibition tells the story of Ramses II or Ramses The Great, who reigned for nearly 67 years around 3000 years ago.

For me the stars of the show were the feather cloaks and headdresses. You will be pleased to hear that the feathers were sustainabily sourced. The birds were trapped, a few feathers plucked out and then the birds were released, their plumage growing back. It would have taken many years to make them.

The Tudor Heart pendant at the British Museum. Possibly made to celebrate the betrothal of Henry VIII & Catherine of Aragon's daughter Mary to the French dauphin in 1518. It was found by a metal detectorist in Warwickshire in 2019. Bought by the British Museum after an appeal raised £3.5 million.

Silk robe worn by T. E. Lawrence (Lawrence Of Arabia). Lawrence gave 2 silk robes to his friend Arthur Russell's mother telling her to cut them up and make dresses from them. Thankfully, this 1 escaped the scissors!

The skeleton of Napoleon's horse Marengo, named after the French victory at Marengo in 1800. The horse was captured along with his owner after the Battle Of Waterloo in 1815 and died in 1831.

Soyer Stove designed by Alexis Soyer for use during the Crimean War 1854-6, allowed soldiers to cook in all weathers & according to Soyer's calculations an army of 40000 men could save 90 tons of fuel per day. The design continued in use for over 100 years. This stove dates from 1953.

Letter from Henry VIII's 5th wife Katherine Howard to Thomas Culpeper. In 1541, rumours were circulating at court that Katherine was having an affair with Culpeper & the letter was used as evidence. She signs off with the words "yours as long as life endures". She was executed in 1542 aged 18-19.

Letter written to Elizabeth I by her favourite (there may have been a romantic relationship) Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester. He died a few days after writing it and Elizabeth kept it with her for the rest of her life. She wrote "his last letter" on it.

A few things that caught my eye in the WW1 gallery. A British sniper robe, hand painted by the sniper to blend into the background. Gas hoods. WW1 trench recreation with a tank overhead. A camera used in aerial reconnaissance.
