Kemi Badenoch takes a rather different view. For her, being the Nasty party is a badge of honour. An aspiration. People had had it far too good with austerity, Brexit, Covid and the Liz Truss mini-budget. The country needed a reality check; a return to old-fashioned unpleasantness.

Well recent polling suggest only 10% of Palestinians support the One State Solution, so I can't help but find it a bit funny that this usually also the type of person that (rightfully in this case) hate the "imposing a solution on people" interventionism of Tony Blair.

Although it feels like I am shouting into the void about this sometimes, I want to share some further thoughts on the “Zionism is Racism” motion which the Green Party is due to debate in the next 16 hours. Just to address various points which I think people in general should know. A thread:

I listened to Ed Davey on the Today programme this morning, and frankly, I think he missed the point. The idea that we're keeping the triple lock to help millennials is at best for the birds, and at worst downright insulting. I say that as a millennial.

Perhaps I'm missing a trick here, but I don't see what is so wrong about the addition of new vocational GCSEs. My experience at that time - and granted this was three years ago - was that a lot of kids wanted an option like that and couldn't get it.

If the rumour is true that this is a test for a General Election, I would almost wonder if this was intentional to see if a Labour Safe Seat would maintain under siege, unlike the previous few.

I was seeing some hopeful signs inside the Lib Dems that they might be shifting gears earlier this year, but it’s all gone pretty quiet for this conference. Davey seems ascendant and unapologetic about his approach, and not enough people in the party seem to care (enough).

Too much of modern politics, particularly in the Lib Dems, is viewing people as a spreadsheet to be manipulated until it gets the right results. I refuse to see voters as anything other than people. No constituency should be seen as an impossibility, not least a statistical one.

Police were told night before Dover unrest that far-right agitators had converged on village
Details passed to Kent police after far-right activists heard in pub boasting about going to to Dover to ‘attack Muslims’ Police were told the night before far-right agitators blocked roads into Dover that those involved had converged on a village 18 miles away and planned to use it as a launchpad, it has emerged. People in Preston-next-Wingham told of how hundreds of men had started to arrive in the village of just over 920 residents on Friday afternoon and in effect “took over” the village. I don't know who this is but the comment made me smile and I agree with it 100%, loud, open and bold Liberalism is absolutely what we should advocate in this moment, and I think to advocate otherwise is a mistake.

Rose is right.

Politics is not a dance. It is a fist fight. Often outside the ring, out in the street. Even the Greens have worked that out by now.

And if we want to win, we need to accept that and learn to fight properly.

Do not be afraid of anger. Do not hand it to Reform. Do not be afraid of being distinctive. Do not be afraid of conflict. Do not be afraid to say clearly who we are and what we stand for.

Because, for God’s sake, our fellow citizens deserve someone who will start defending them instead of exploiting them.

We also cannot treat simply holding what we already have as success. We are the third party in the House of Commons, but around fifth in the polls. Defending seats can be a success for the electoral machine. It is not necessarily a political success.

A political party is supposed to fight for power. If it starts mainly protecting what it already has, sooner or later someone bolder will take the rest away.

That is exactly why we should go into Holborn and St Pancras seriously.

Nobody gives us much of a chance there? Good. The risk is small, and the stakes are much bigger than one seat.

Let’s show them we know how to fight.

Transphobia allowed these people to abuse trans women and be cheered for it by the media @mrjamesob.bsky.social. It is a socially acceptable way to abuse women and what you seen at the Reform conference is that spilling out as trans people said it would.

One has to question what sort of culture the Party fosters that would cause it's members to take such actions. Perhaps we can start with Farage's misogyny towards critical women, or the fact he consistently tries to get away with subverting the law. This should really be an arrestable offence.
