Als de herverkiezing van Trump en zijn handelen daarna ons één ding leert over het beschermen van de integriteit van verkiezingen is het dit: kandidaten die hun nederlaag niet kunnen accepteren als er geen enkel bewijs is voor fraude, kunnen beter levenslang worden uitgesloten van passief kiesrecht.

Kunstmuseum in The Hague is always worth a visit, but now even more due to two wonderful exhibitions: one with paintings from Francis Bacon and his contemporaries in Londen and one with photographs by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin. For the first time, I also visited the cool Panorama Mesdag.

These were my favourite albums on Spotify in 2025. I had never listened much to Bob Dylan, but the wonderful biopic with a brilliant Timothée Chalamet made me listen a lot to his breakthrough album. The others are a true classic by Talk Talk and recent albums by The Veils, Still Corners and Kanadia.

Na maar liefst 40 jaar te hebben gewerkt bij onze universiteit, nam collega Pieter-Jan Klok vandaag afscheid vanwege zijn welverdiende pensionering. Om dat te markeren gaf hij een afscheidscollege, gevolgd door een gezellige receptie met de huidige collega’s en veel oude bekenden.

Vanmiddag overhandigde onze rector Tom Veldkamp een flinke taart aan opleidingscoördinator Martin de Nobel. Aanleiding was de mooie score (81 punten) en label “topopleiding” in de nieuwe Keuzegids voor onze bacheloropleiding Bestuurskunde (nu nog aangeboden als “Management, Society & Technology”).

Voor mijn verzameling vinyl singles uit de jaren ‘80 bestel ik er af en toe nog wat via Discogs. Verkopers zijn vaak platenzaken of particulieren, die bijvoorbeeld van hun verzameling af willen. Deze Belgische verkoper combineert dit blijkbaar met het van de hand doen van zijn postzegelverzameling.

President Trump’s rhetoric supports this concern.
