Of course it was censorship. How is that even a question? If you really want to protest what's happening in our country, start by deleting all your Meta accounts. It's the easiest protest ever. You don't even have to get off your couch to do it. Don't "deactivate". DELETE. Permanently delete […]

Even better than I thought! One basic class, two different "private" classes to handle the differences, fluent interface for convenience. Turned out quite nicely. There seems to be some "AI', checking my grammar here. WTFup with that?

I really, well, kind of, want a new Mac Mini. But I surely don't need it, and I fear setting it up, despite little or no troubles in the past.

Over a couple of sessions, I have made them identical except for the setup, which is perforce different, and the access, which varies because of the spacing. Next, I'll combine them into a single class that will be smaller than the larger of the two, and likely smaller than the smaller. It'll […]

Y'know what's fun? I had two small classes, one processing a series of vectors a fixed distance apart, and one for vectors at varying distances. They both had to answer the same couple of queries. Because of how I wrote them, separate in time and space, they were similar but not the same, doing […]

It seems likely that we'll begin hearing from GOP candidates distancing themselves from the rapist in chief. The only question the press should ask is "Where were you when it mattered?"

What's fascinating to me now though is that we havea real-world example of something that everyone powerful claims has incomparable power, but that looks like a ridiculous parlor trick, and that tends to corrupt the minds of the people who use it. And there's nothing supernatural going on! No […]

I feel this. The comments over on lobste.rs are ... interesting. Is the point of programming the production of "software"? What if, just if, it isn't?

Look. The argument is very simple, I'll explain. 1. Consciousness is mysterious; neuroscientists don't quite understand how it works 2. LLMs are mysterious; LLM vendors don't quite understand how they work 3. Therefore, LLMs are consciousness. In logic we call this an "extremely correct syllogism"

To be clear, when Trump threatens to revoke Ilhan Omar’s citizenship and when he asserts his authority to end birthright citizenship, he is seeking to take America back to the “blood purity” laws of yesteryear. This is the same program that the Nazis drew upon when they were formulating the […]

The system of the world is incredibly jagged and busy and complex, all the way down to the atoms and all the way up to life and to society, which is life interacting with life. Yet it seems to me--and this can't possibly be right--that the good lies in simplicity, in grace, in smoothness. That […]
