A depressing reality as a journalist is that often the most valuable stories are the ones the social media algorithm/people care the least about. One of my worst performing videos for Mother Jones is about a family of asylum seekers who had a father deported by ICE. It is likely my best work.

The promise of the 30 yr mortgage was modest growth in value over long periods, maybe 1-2 upgrades and by retirement a paid off house. No reason we can’t return to that. It’s the only path forward that’s even close to amenable to both prospective buyers and current owners.

Cea is joining as Director of the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants. She’s been leading Housing Justice for All and the New York State Tenant Bloc, where she helped pass the Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019, landmark legislation that closed loopholes landlords used to raise rents and push apartments out of stabilization.

Now she’ll work with us to hold landlords accountable and ensure New York City tenants are living in safe, clean homes.Cea Weaver sitting at a table signing a paper, with Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani on the left and a white soccer jersey with Brooklyn written on it hanging on the right.
