Was showing various design systems in Interaction Design today and a student asked a good question (that I answered..) but curious takes from other old internet denizens... "Why do people publish their design systems publicly?" I attributed it the ethos of old Web 2.0 but...curious other takes.

Crazy how this is basically a conference

WPBL hiding their clinching game clips behind a paywall is a massive own goal. Great players, really cool year. But they've really gotta talk to people who've run a sports league before.

I wasn't anticipating filling the class up - bb's first waitlist -- but there's a lot of grad students, so I can really ratchet this up in a direction that I wasn't anticipating when it was an undergrad only class (we still have 6) so finding the balance without holding it back has been interesting

Yeah I eventually figured it out but bleary eyed hungry me was severely displeased at the time

I couldn't get the vending machines to work once while everything was closed I hated it so much I avoid all layovers there anymore

My mild obsession with this sprang from the Oregon Moda Center debacle and noticing how fast a state - with a blue majority - was able to stitch together the funding for an arena but never marshals that sort of creativity for anything consequential to people's everyday lives.

Ask any civic technologists whose been doing service delivery long enough and they'll tell you all sorts of stories about how letters get mailed in late, to the wrong address, or in the wrong language. And because government hasn't cracked down on scam letters and calls, it makes it harder.
