"April 16th, 1924 Letter to Jul'ka" - A Great and Terrible World: The Pre-Prison Letters (Derek Boothman - 2014) maybe my favourite gramsci letter. one of the best to see his relationship to his wife but also how he thinks about the world. it is very charming

ive been thinking about this a lot recently but it is truly incredible how often it comes up and how it almost always takes the image of using a liberal framework to substitute for collective action, doubly so if its something that can only be solved through collective action

Romolla had the idea to try something different and do a more structured, scripted video style and we worked over the weekend to create this and I'm super happy with it. Please consider giving it a look and letting us know what you think of this type of video!

youtu.be/knJhYASboZE new video! another fave of mine by gramsci, about who is an intellectual, and what the function of an intellectual is. highly recommend this one for getting a good glimpse into how gramsci thinks (and why i particularly love his analysis!)

So I'll just tell a story that I really enjoy. One time, he asked about what the Finnish version of his name would be. I told him about how they usually differ, and asked him to guess what it would be. His guess was Daniilo (it's Taneli) because I told him Nick = Niilo. He was probably drunk.

One of my favourite people in the FGC as a whole was sweetxjam. I have so many memories of him that I'll never forget, and losing him so early especially breaks my heart. I'm struggling to fully express how meaningful he was to me beyond that - I cannot say it enough that I have so much love for him

I was going to write an incredibly long and sappy eulogy because if there's one person I've been blessed to meet in my life, it's sweetxjam. He wouldn't want that though. So instead, here's a picture that sums up our brotherhood LOL. Rest easy, my friend. I love you.

sweetxjam and I wearing our "i heart hot moms" shirts, never to be seen again after their debut. Grand opening, grand closing LOL

read this parenti article and it felt like my past and future truly clashed

Lately we have been hearing a great deal about "blowback." But the real menace we face today is global rollback. The goal of conservative rulers around the world, led by those who occupy the seats of power in Washington, is the systematic rollback of democratic gains, public services, and common living standards around the world.

"January 13th, 1924 Letter to Jul'ka" - A Great and Terrible World: The Pre-Prison Letters (Derek Boothman - 2014) they truly do not make fellas like antonio gramsci anymore

Dear one,
And you, how is life with you, how are you managing? You write that
you cannot imagine my life, but yours – how is that going on? I try
to picture to myself the comings and goings of your daily life, with
the coffee maker and the little plate. On that subject, you haven’t said
anything to me about the plate, about that precious little instrument
for ham or cheese omelettes of untold magnificence. Is it still in use?
My life is simple and straightforward, as transparent, according to
Rimbaud, as a louse trapped between two lenses. I am always at
home, or almost always, in a street far away from the city centre,
alone, reading and writing. I am often cold because the stove doesn’t
produce much heat, and I don’t sleep at night much because the
bedroom isn’t heated – it’s six degrees, which gives me a cold every
night. The bed is German-style, very hard and uncomfortable and,
instead of sheets and blankets, there is an eiderdown that slides off all
over the place and so I continually wake up with a foot or shoulder
that’s absolutely freezing. However life can be lived just the same,
especially because you are always, always in my thoughts. Often I’m
tormented by not being able to hold you in my arms, not feeling you
near me, so gentle, so kind, so dear, not being able to embrace and
caress you at length. I can’t live without you. My life which, with you
and for you, had begun to put out new green shoots, sometimes now

seems to me once again to be drying up and becoming oh so bitter.
But this will pass, we shall meet again, I’ll stick my tongue out at you
to annoy you, then I’ll hold you oh so close and tight because I love
you so much and you too love me so much and I cannot be without
you, because I do not seem whole, but it seems there’s always a part of
me that is detached and far away, and its absence is tormenting me
beyond what words can say.
I’m sending you the first chapters of the Rjazanov translation. I
don’t know what it’s like. You’ll have to look at it closely and be very
severe in your corrections. For the technical expressions you can ask
Bianco. Virgili has a technical dictionary in 6 languages, including
Italian and Russian.36 You can make a list of the Russian expressions
and then check them off in that dictionary.
I still don’t know the exact terms of the discussion that has taken
place in the party. I’ve seen just the C[entral] C[ommittee] resolution
on inner-party democracy, but no other resolution. I don’t know
anything either of Trotsky’s article, or that of Stalin. I can’t under-
stand the attack of this latter, which seemed to me to be quite
irresponsible and dangerous. But it may be that my lack of knowledge
of the subject is leading me to mistaken conclusions. This is why I
wanted you to give me information and some direct impressions. Is it
really so impossible to have something of the kind? 37 To safeguard
against any risk whatsoever of possible loss you should write to me in
coded form, but the work would be a burden for you and very tiring
if what you had to write were very long. If anything, have a word with
Umberto and ask him on my behalf to teach you a system whose key
you’ll then send me; this will in any case then be of use me too,
should need arise.
