Our Little Philly Garden - romv
I suppose I should kick off this post by saying that I’m no expert gardener; rather, just someone trying to learn. My bf and I bought a house in the great city...

It's common sense to allow Philadelphians to build generational wealth and age in place by adding bonus units (ADUs). This is one way we can prevent displacement and create affordable housing in one go. share.inquirer.com/geX7Mb

I guess I’m not confident that it’s *not* a problem, just that I’m more confident that the issue is the algorithms that are designed to steal our attention as much as possible. The length of the content seems less relevant to me than the means through which we consume it.

A meta analysis is often done to help bring more funding for future research or explain where future research should aim its exploration

Roman @roman.xptracker.app · 08/04/2026
Which on a personal note I support. I’m just pointing out that we don’t know if it’s the fact that the content is short form versus addictive algorithms versus infinite scrolling feeds.

Roman @roman.xptracker.app · 08/04/2026
This study doesn’t parse out causation though, it only associates short form video content with worse cognitive outcomes. It never asks if the content vs. form of the content vs. how the content is served is the real issue. It’s meant to serve as a reason and justification for future research.

Roman @roman.xptracker.app · 08/04/2026
It’s all about the content moderation and algorithms, not the content itself. If the algorithm prioritizes engagement and view times over matching to your actual interests, then thats a problem. I think a tiktok type would be perfect for atproto, given we can moderate our feeds

for me impeachment isn't what we should be after. this president and most of his cabinet and staff should be prosecuted for corruption, fraud, war crimes, obstruction, and all the various crimes they have committed. i will only vote for a presidential candidate in 2028 who commits to this.

Here's the CEO of @thefireorg.bsky.social being extremely transphobic. Which side is the one criminalizing care and research? Which side is the one defunding all research? Which side is purging dissent? It ain't trans people. These people were asked not to be transphobic and they lost their minds.
A screenshot of a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Greg Lukianoff (@glukianoff) that reads: "In my career defending academic freedom and free speech, I never saw anything become as immediately radioactive as views that ran counter to the narrative on trans issues. Papers were retracted, compelled speech was treated as normal, and people were canceled for saying things that would have sounded like common sense just a few years earlier. It seemed to become a kind of secular blasphemy overnight. And usually, that is a sign that the true believers know, at some level, that they are on shaky ground."
Below the text is a tag for "@hoovlet" and a quote post from Timur Kuran (@timurkuran) dated Apr 5, which reads: "The promoters of 'gender-affirming care' tried to quash scientific debate on its effects through name-calling and by designating as 'settled science' the claim that it improves the mental health of dysphoric kids. It’s now clear why they feared open scientific ..."

As an example, I can’t create a user’s atproto auth identity without hosting a PDS, meaning I have to direct them to a known provider. And many users aren’t interested in signing up with what they see as just another “twitter type”, even if they’d benefit from the underlying tech

Part of this feels like it’s because a lot of atproto dev discourse leans “all or nothing”. Apps are either completely native or don’t exist at all. There needs to be an incentive for 3rd party apps with existing users to integrate, rn the cost of entry is high

We’ve been experimenting with lexicons to post a “job listing” to atproto at @xptracker.app, but we’re thinking of moving the lexicons to a standalone site for easier community driven development. Not sure if that’s what you’re looking for, happy to chat! example: xptracker.app/job-matches/board/

The news has moved on, but ICE is still in Minneapolis. My neighbors are still patrolling streets, driving strangers to work, and providing aid. As a photojournalist at @propublica.org, I wanted to know: What do they look like in their daily lives? So I picked up my camera 👇
Four portraits of Minnesota residents inside and outside their homes. From left to right: A woman in a hijab, an older woman wearing a red whistle, an elderly couple in winter coats standing in the snow, and a woman wearing a buttoned-up cardigan and dark blue jeans.

I stand by that. If your point hinges on race while you deny someone theirs, you’re sabotaging your own argument. “Defeated” was too strong a choice in word here.

To your point, if you’d look, she’s Japanese American. I was with Jay’s original premise of what ally-ship means, but by not recognizing her race he’s defeated his own point.

true, but consider what the promise of atproto means for them: an open data stream, that grows as more users accept it, and only becomes more self-organized as certain lexicons start gaining wider acceptance. easy concept for them to get behind
