Farage saying they won’t process Asylum applications for 5 years. Just like the Tories then. Which is why we are still dealing with the backlog.

Badenoch will surely be shocked when she finds out that the Tories kick-started and largely negotiated the Chagos deal - under Johnson, Truss and then Sunak. And when she finds out she was a Minister in each of those leaders' Governments.

Kemi Badenoch spoke undiluted bilge in her speech at the Tory Party conference, indulged by the client media. Nothing added up, huge Liz Truss tax giveaways. A new poll now has her up 3% and overtaken Reform U.K. If you have the media on your side, you can do almost anything.

New from me on Political Sandbox: The Black Swan That Wasn't The Tories treat Liz Truss as an aberration. She was actually a culmination. And Kemi Badenoch is making exactly the same mistake again. politicalsandbox.substack.com/p/the…
A noir illustration of a cobbled riverside at night under a single streetlamp. A swan floats on the dark water; its black paint is dripping off to reveal white feathers underneath. Behind it, the silhouette of a grand domed government building with a few orange-lit windows.

‘Keminaissance’ is pure wishful thinking on the part of a rightwing media that furiously peddled pro-Farage propaganda until it became embarrassingly obvious that he was a raging liability and they needed to go back to the Tories as their weapon of choice.

This is absolutely what’s going on with Badenoch’s polling improvement. She is very much not getting any better or any more popular or electable. There is no (shoot-me-now) ‘Keminaissance’. It’s just that Farage has got even worse. And rightwing money needs a horse to back…
I can see only one major reason for this.
Various media owners, secretive sponsors of tax-averse "think tanks" and climate change-denying plutocrats, who seem determined to see normal service resumed in Downing Street as soon as possible, are having serious doubts about Nigel Farage's electability, and Badenoch remains their only other option.

As long as the Tories are threatening to leave the ECHR, they aren’t a serious party. Consider it the ultimate red flag. Any party who’d take this entirely unnecessary and ruinous risk with our rights and our country’s security and wellbeing should never get its hands on power. (Letter, Times)
Value of the
ECHR
Sir, In dangerous times, serious countries do not retreat into splendid isolation. They build alliances, multiply their influence and strengthen institutions. Key among those is the 46-member Council of Europe, at its heart the European Convention on Human Rights. As former independent reviewers of terrorism legislation we have seen at close quarters that the ECHR is not just a human rights instrument. It is a national security asset. Terrorist networks, hostile states, organised crime gangs and people smugglers do not respect borders. Tackling them requires arrangements for the closest possible co-operation with our neighbours, including through joint investigations and police access to European passenger, fingerprint, DNA and vehicle data. These arrangements expressly depend on internationally agreed human rights standards, applied by a supranational court. We detect no political willingness to excuse the UK from compliance with standards to which the rest of Europe already subscribes. As authoritarian powers grow more aggressive and democratic institutions face mounting pressure, Britain should not be abandoning one of its greatest postwar achievements.
The question is not whether we can afford to remain within the ECHR. It is whether, in an increasingly perilous world, we can afford not to.

Even though it’s the Tories who let our prisons rot, built no prisons and only made 500 prison more places in 14 years? The media blamed Keir Starmer for having to let prisoners out early because prisons are full and of course now it’s all Andy Burnham’s fault.
